Working hand in hand with the Sector’s six Motor Life Boat Stations, the Coast Guard Cutter Orcas, and Coos Bay Aids to Navigation (ANT) team, the Air Station’s crews stand a 24/7 watch protecting those at sea and inland. Although beautiful, the rugged Oregon coast can become dangerous at a moment’s notice. Notoriously strong winds, powerful waves in excess of 40 feet, unpredictable fog, blinding
rain, steep cliffs, remote mountains, and thousands of miles of rivers create unique challenges for our helicopter and boat crews. From inland mountain rescues of injured loggers and hikers, to at sea search and rescue cases of sinking vessels or lost fishermen, the members of Sector North Bend stand a vigilant watch no matter the conditions. Sector North Bend protects the environment with the clear understanding that the quality of people's lives and livelihoods depend on diligent stewardship of our nation's maritime resources.
