Public Statement Regarding Emergency Demolition Work
Earlier this year, the Borough of North Braddock authorized emergency demolition work at a residential structure that had become severely deteriorated and structurally unstable after many years of vacancy and neglect. By early March 2026, the condition of the structure had worsened to the point that it posed a significant safety concern to the surrounding community.
At the direction and approval of the Borough, DJ Demolition Company performed work to safely demolish and stabilize the structure. The work completed was authorized by the Borough and paid for using Borough funds. The scope of the authorized work was limited to the emergency demolition and stabilization of the unsafe structure.
The Borough recognizes that additional debris removal and site cleanup will still be necessary. However, full removal and disposal of demolition debris involves substantially greater costs than emergency stabilization alone, and the Borough had already exhausted its budgeted demolition funding for the year at the time the emergency work became necessary.
The Borough appreciates the assistance provided by DJ Demolition Company during this matter. DJ Demolition has served the Borough and surrounding communities for many years and has repeatedly assisted the Borough during emergency and public safety situations. The company completed the work requested and authorized by the Borough.
The Borough will continue evaluating options for the remaining site cleanup as funding and operational capacity allow.
