Gateway Open Studios Tour Welcome to the DC region's largest one-day visual arts event! Welcome to the 13th Annual Gateway Open Studios Tour!

Come visit hundreds of working artist studios in the Gateway Arts District, along Route 1 from the DC line through Hyattsville. The event will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 12-5pm. Our community, the Gateway Arts District, is home to hundreds of artists representing every artistic medium. On this self-guided tour, you are invited to visit over 100 participati

ng studios, galleries, and other cultural venues for a behind-the-scenes experience of the workshops and creative places in our neighborhood. Along the tour, from Mount Rainier to Hyattsville, you will discover live art demonstrations, music, performances, glassworks, sculptures, painting, and so much more! All ages are welcome, and since there is SO much to do, we recommend you look ahead and plan your tour route in advance. All participating studios will be open from 12-5pm. Please visit the designated information sites with general questions about the tour, artists, and activities or to learn more about the Gateway Arts District. Be sure to join us for the After Party from 5-8pm at the 39th Street Gallery in the Gateway Arts Center! Gateway CDC extends special thanks to our supporters and participating artists, municipalities, staff, and volunteers for ensuring the success of this year’s event.

Step into the world of Visual & Audio Storyteller Antonio Hernandez , featured at the Gateway Media Arts Lab this Saturday, May 9th, 2026 from 12 pm - 5 pm.

He will be showcasing his documentary Indelible , a black-and-white series exploring a “Marvel Universe” of D.C. musicians, featuring artists like Odd Mojo and Black Folks Don’t Swim? and highlighting the connections shaping the region’s sound.

This week’s creator takeover is with Lucas Rougeux🩸They are a Niagara Falls transplant working out of in Mount Rainier, MD. Rougeux’s practice is interdisciplinary, spanning drawing, painting, performance, installation, and textile arts to explore “themes of sexuality, queerness, spirituality, light, and the intangible unknown”. 🌌

Four Towns, One Community, over 200 Artists

You're invited to explore the vibrant art community located in the four towns of Mount Rainier, Brentwood, North Brentwood, and Hyattsville that comprise Maryland’s Gateway Arts District.

The 2026 GATEWAY OPEN STUDIOS TOUR happens on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 12 – 5 pm. The event is FREE and open to the public. Visit https://www.gatewaycdc.org/ost2026 for a map of participating artists and studios to plan your self-guided tour.

Visitors can see spaces not always open, view artists' work and workspaces, and talk to the artists about their practice on this special day of open houses. Many neighboring businesses will be poised to welcome visitors for food, drink, and further discovery of the many small and creative places within the Gateway Arts District. Enjoy locally brewed beer at Franklin’s or Streetcar 82, grab lunch at Pennyroyal Station or one of the food trucks popping up for the day.

After touring, all are welcome to the Pyramid Atlantic Members show opening in Hyattsville and to join the 3711 Studios team for an opening at Station 3510 in Mount Rainier.

This week’s takeover creator is Dwayne Martin who works out of 39th St Studios! He is a ward 7 DC native and self taught artist who’s been at it for a decade. Dwayne uses everything and the kitchen sink to create vibrant abstract expressionist art, which he makes as a form of therapeutic processing. Stay tuned to learn more about Dwayne and his work ~
