SC Port Access Road

SC Port Access Road Access road construction project in Charleston County, SC connecting I-26 to the Hugh K. Leatherman Leatherman Sr. Terminal.

When completed, the SC Port Access Road will provide service for local, commuter, and commercial traffic by connecting Interstate 26 and the South Carolina State Port Authority’s new Hugh K. The 4-laned access ramp will carry container traffic to and from the new terminal on two inbound lanes and two outbound lanes. Local and commercial traffic will be able to utilize a new fully directional inter

change on I-26, a connector road to Bainbridge Avenue, an extension of Stromboli Avenue, as well as associated roadway improvements to surface streets.

The eastbound and westbound right lanes (outer lanes) of I-26 around the Cosgrove Avenue (SC 7) Interchange will be closed on Monday Night, October 25th from 7 pm to 6 am (I-26 EB)/ 7 am (I-26 WB). These closures are necessary to work on the overhead signage at I-26 and Cosgrove Avenue.

During the lane closure timeframe, there will also be periodic rolling closures of I-26 Eastbound and I-26 Westbound as needed to work over these lanes of traffic. Rolling closures are used to stop and slow all lanes of traffic for short periods of time as the full closure “rolls” through the work zone.

The ramp from Cosgrove Avenue (SC 7) onto I-26 Westbound, heading towards Columbia, will also be closed Monday night, October 25th from 7 pm until 7 am the morning of October 26th. Traffic from Cosgrove Avenue onto I-26 Westbound will be detoured to Dorchester Avenue. All the other Cosgrove Avenue ramps on and off I-26 will remain open.
