Through our partnership with The Birthday Party Project, every child served by Landmarks for Families—whether through our residential or community-based programs—has the opportunity to feel recognized, valued, and celebrated on their birthday.

A birthday celebration may seem simple, but for a child, it sends a powerful message: You matter. Your life is worth celebrating. This day belongs to you.

We are grateful to The Birthday Party Project for helping us create joyful memories and ensure that no child’s special day goes unnoticed.

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗿𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲!

On November 12, 1792, President George Washington laid the cornerstone for the Charleston Orphan House’s first permanent building on what is now Calhoun Street.

That institution would eventually become Landmarks for Families. While the original building is no longer standing, the mission that began there continues today through programs that protect children, empower families, and prepare young people for adulthood.

Charleston history is woven into our story—and our work continues to shape its future.

𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹.

Reunification, kinship placement, or adoption may close one chapter in a family’s journey—but support is often still needed as they begin the next.

Through a partnership with The Duke Endowment, Landmarks for Families’ Family Success Coach Program provides families with individualized guidance to strengthen relationships, navigate behavioral and educational concerns, build parenting and communication skills, access community resources, and plan for greater stability.

Our Success Coaches do more than connect families with services. They work alongside them to solve problems, build resilience, and develop the tools needed to remain safely together and thrive.

This is family preservation in action: recognizing that lasting stability requires continued investment, trusted relationships, and support tailored to each family’s needs.

Landmarks for Families is excited to welcome Ignite Academy’s EQUIP Homes program to our residential services!

Through hands-on instruction and mentorship, our young people will develop practical skills in cooking and nutrition, budgeting, home management, communication, healthy relationships, hospitality, leadership, and more.

EQUIP Homes goes beyond teaching young people how to complete everyday tasks. It helps them build confidence, strengthen character, discover their purpose, and prepare for greater independence.

This new opportunity reflects our commitment to ensuring every young person in our care has the skills, support, and encouragement needed to build a thriving future.

We cannot wait to share their journey!

Landmarks for Families is proud of our partnership with 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆, which has allowed us to create a 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 for the young people who call Landmarks home.

What makes this partnership work is a shared belief that education is not one-size-fits-all. Together, Landmarks and Heron Virtual Academy focus on 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀 grounded in 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮-𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀, recognizing each student’s experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals.

For young people whose education may have been interrupted by circumstances beyond their control, simply getting them back into a classroom isn’t enough. We work with each student to understand where they are academically, identify what they need to move forward, and create an individual path toward success.

And our goal is ambitious: 𝗼𝗻-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲.

We are grateful to Heron Virtual Academy for sharing that vision and helping us create an educational environment where young people have the flexibility, support, and opportunity they need to keep moving forward.
