Trident United Way United is the Way to create lasting change in our Tri-County community

When budgets are stretched thin and paychecks are spoken for, many hardworking families in the Tri-County are forced to make impossible choices between basic needs that should never have to compete.

These families are called ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). Across the Tri-County, 37% of households fall at or below the ALICE Threshold, or the dollar amount needed to afford the basics where they live.

These challenges don't disappear, but with the right support, these choices can become easier to make. Through Trident United Way's Thrive@™ program, Family Coaches walk beside families to build a plan and help families reach lasting financial stability.

When families face fewer impossible choices, our entire community has more possibilities.

We're excited to welcome David "Dave" Forman to the Trident United Way team as our Chief of Staff!

Dave is a former U.S. Navy leader and a member of the 2026 Presidential Leadership Scholars cohort. In this new position at TUW, he'll be working closely with President & CEO DJ Hampton to coordinate major initiatives across departments and help move key decisions into action.

Thank you Motley Rice for supporting veterans in our community!

Volunteers from Motley Rice recently packed 250 Veteran Kits that will be shared through our Mission United program and to veterans throughout the Tri-County. These kits include hygiene products and other essential items like laundry detergent, ear plugs and shaving kits to help provide support to unhoused veterans.

Energized, inspired and committed were just a few of the words we heard from the 300 community partners and business leaders at State of Our Families yesterday.

From the stories shared by keynote speaker Brian Goldstone to insights from the panel of local leaders, it's clear there are hardworking families facing challenges every day - but there is also a community that wants to step up and make a real impact.

We're proud to rally with our community around this effort. In the weeks ahead, we'll be sharing more from State of Our Families and ways you can get involved in supporting hardworking families in the Tri-County. Stay tuned!

Days of Caring volunteer registration is OPEN! Be part of the Tri-County area's largest service event and give your time to support local nonprofits, agencies and schools.

Last year, over 2,000 volunteers completed 150 projects at 75 nonprofits and schools across Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester County. This provided over $265,000 of economic impact!

Thank you to the United Bank team for supporting our community!

Last month, volunteers from United Bank packed 250 hygiene kits that will support families across the Tri-County. With 37% of households living at or below the ALICE Threshold, these kits mean one less expense for famlies already making impossible choices every day.
