Traffic Alert: Nighttime Lane Closure on S.C. Highway 61 and Detour on Bees Ferry Road on July 12-13
Charleston County Government announces a night time lane closure on S.C. Highway 61 (Ashley River Road) and a detour on Bees Ferry Road beginning Sunday night, July 12, and ending early Monday, July 13. The purpose of the closure and detour is to perform roadway manhole adjustments. All work is weather permitting.
All work will occur between 9:00 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The southbound lane headed towards Charleston on Highway 61 just south of the Bees Ferry Road Intersection will be closed. Workers will be present to safely route motorists through the closure.
A temporary detour on Bees Ferry Road will occur between U.S. 17 (Savannah Highway) and Bear Swamp Road for only westbound traffic headed towards U.S. 17. Traffic will be detoured to Main Road.
Motorists coming from U.S. 17 onto Bees Ferry Road will not be affected by this detour.
The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions in speed limits and message board information.
Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times.
In the event that both locations cannot be completed that night, the Highway 61 lane closure will occur the following night, July 13-14.
