Traffic Alert: Nighttime Lane Closure on S.C. Highway 61 and Detour on Bees Ferry Road on July 12-13

Charleston County Government announces a night time lane closure on S.C. Highway 61 (Ashley River Road) and a detour on Bees Ferry Road beginning Sunday night, July 12, and ending early Monday, July 13. The purpose of the closure and detour is to perform roadway manhole adjustments. All work is weather permitting.


All work will occur between 9:00 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The southbound lane headed towards Charleston on Highway 61 just south of the Bees Ferry Road Intersection will be closed. Workers will be present to safely route motorists through the closure.
A temporary detour on Bees Ferry Road will occur between U.S. 17 (Savannah Highway) and Bear Swamp Road for only westbound traffic headed towards U.S. 17. Traffic will be detoured to Main Road.
Motorists coming from U.S. 17 onto Bees Ferry Road will not be affected by this detour.
The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions in speed limits and message board information.
Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times.
In the event that both locations cannot be completed that night, the Highway 61 lane closure will occur the following night, July 13-14.

Traffic Alert: Road Closure and Detour Route for the Harbor View Road Improvements Project

Charleston County Government announces a portion of Harbor View Road will be closed to traffic during late evening / early morning hours starting July 13, 2015. Crews will be working on Harbor View Road between Gregg Drive and Darwin Street for the Harbor View Road Improvements project. The purpose of the road closure is to expedite construction activities and for the safety of workers and traveling motorists.

Drivers will have access to all businesses and residential properties along Harbor View Road at all times.

July 13 – July 16:

·The road closure will start Monday night, July 13 - July 16.

·The detour and road closure will only occur between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

·Harbor View Road will be closed between Gregg Drive and Darwin Street.

·Local traffic is permitted Eastbound to Gregg Drive and Westbound to Darwin Street.

Flagmen will be on site to control traffic.
Message boards and detour signs will be on site to direct traffic.
Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times.
All work is weather permitting.

The Harbor View Road Improvements project is to improve traffic flow and safety on Harbor View Road and to provide adequate bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The scheduled completion of the project is expected in fall 2016.

The project will include the addition of a center two-way left turn lane between North Shore Drive and Affirmation Boulevard, the addition of right turn lanes at major intersections, the addition of traffic signals at Fort Sumter Drive and Mikell Drive, the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Harbor View Road and Fort Johnson Road and the addition of pedestrian and bicycle facilities.

Charleston County Government announces the Independence Day Holiday road work restrictions on Harbor View Road for the Harbor View Road Improvements project.

·Work will be restricted for the Independence Day Holiday prohibiting night-time lane closures starting Weds July 1st through Tuesday July 7th.

·Night-time construction activities will resume on Weds night July 8th.

·Day-time work without lane closures may occur throughout the Holiday.

·There are no planned work activities for either day-time or night-time starting Friday July 3rd through Sunday July 5th.

Traffic Alert: Nighttime Lane Closures Update for the Harbor View Road Improvements Project

Charleston County Government announces nighttime lane closures will continue tonight, June 16, 2015. Crews will

be working on Harbor View Road for the Harbor View Road Improvements project. All work is weather permitting.



June 16 – June 30:



·Nighttime lane closures will occur on Harbor View Road.

·The work will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights and between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m. Friday through Saturday nights.
•Flagmen will be on site to control traffic.
•At no time will the entire roadway be blocked to traffic.
•Drivers will have access to businesses and residential properties along Harbor View Road at all times.

·At least one lane will remain open to traffic under flagging operations.
•Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times.

The purpose of the Harbor View Road Improvements project is to improve traffic flow and safety on Harbor View Road and to provide adequate bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The scheduled completion of the project is expected in fall 2016.

Traffic Alert: Daytime Traffic Shift on Harbor View Road

Charleston County Government announces that a daytime traffic shift will occur on Saturday May 30, 2015. Utility crews will be working on Harbor View Road between Quail Drive and Affirmation Boulevard to relocate SCE&G gas lines for the Harbor View Road Improvements project. All work is weather permitting.

Saturday May 30:

· Daytime traffic shift between Quail Drive and Affirmation Boulevard.

· Traffic shift will eliminate the center turn lane between Quail Drive and Affirmation Boulevard.

· Motorist will be able to travel in both directions on Harbor View Road during the traffic shift.

· The work will occur between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday.

At no time will the entire roadway be blocked to traffic.
Drivers will have access to businesses and residential properties along Harbor View Road at all times.
Advance warning signs and message boards will be utilized to alert motorists.
Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times.

Harbor View Road:
During the Memorial Holiday Weekend construction activities, that do not require a lane closure, are permitted on Harbor View Road.

LANE CLOSURES will not be permitted from 6am on Friday May 22nd through 6am on Tuesday May 26th.

There are not any planned construction activities for Memorial Day Monday May 25th.

Construction will resume on Tuesday May 26th.

Highway 171 Sidewalk Construction to begin on May 13
Sidewalk project will provide improved pedestrian access in West Ashley

Charleston County Government announces the final phases of the Highway 171 Sidewalk project in West Ashley will start May 13. This project, Phases 2 and 3, is the final portion of the overall project and will complete the objective of providing a pedestrian paved sidewalk from the City of Charleston’s new Northbridge Park to Charlestowne Landing State Park.

Phase 1 of the project was completed by Charleston County and provides a connection from the City of Charleston’s Northbridge Park asphalt multiuse path to the intersection of Orange Grove Road. Phases 2 and 3 of the project will consist of extending the concrete sidewalk along Sam Rittenberg Boulevard, Old Towne Road and Ingram Road from Orange Grove Road to the existing Old Towne Road sidewalk at the entrance to Charlestowne Landing State Park. This will also provide connectivity to the sidewalk project previously constructed along Charlestowne Drive and Dickens Street.

Construction will begin on Wednesday, May 13 and is expected to last two months; all work is weather permitting
Lane closures on Highway 171, as necessary, will only occur from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Bees Ferry Road: Traffic Alert: Nighttime Lane Closure on U.S. Highway 17 at the Bees Ferry Road Intersection on May 6-7, 2015

Charleston County Government announces a nighttime lane closure on U.S. Highway 17 (Savannah Highway) at the Bees Ferry Road intersection on Wednesday night, May 6, through early Thursday morning, May 7. The purpose of the closure is so workers can finish asphalt repairs as part of the Bees Ferry Road Widening Project. A lane closure will also occur at the Glenn McConnell Boulevard and Bees Ferry Road intersection for work on the crosswalk. All work is weather permitting.


The lane closure will occur on the U.S. 17 southbound acceleration lane from Bees Ferry Road.
This work will occur between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions in speed limits and message board information. Workers will also be present to safely route motorists through the closures.
Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times.
