🌟 Congratulations to Jackie Delos-Angeles!

Earlier this month, Jackie was spotlighted by Endeavor Health for her work as a Sterile Processing Technician, and we could not be prouder.

Jackie came to YouthBuild Lake County after stepping away from high school to care for her newborn daughter. At YBLC, she earned her diploma, gained industry-recognized credentials, built career readiness skills, and began exploring a future in healthcare.

Through career exposure tours, staff support, and the ASPIRE summer internship with Endeavor Health, Jackie found a pathway that matched her goals. That internship quickly became a full-time role.

As Jackie shared in her Endeavor spotlight: “Even though my role is behind the scenes, I’m proud knowing that my work contributes to patient care and making a difference.”

🧱 A career pathway becomes more real when you can step inside it.

Earlier this week, trainees from YouthBuild Lake County's Pre-Apprentice program visited the Bricklayers Union to learn about the trade, ask questions, and see what union construction careers can look like firsthand.

Career exposure is a critical part of workforce development. It helps young adults understand their options, compare different industries, and begin identifying the path that fits their skills, goals, and interests.

On Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Last Thursday, YouthBuild Lake County participants joined community partners at NorthShore Garden of Memories to place flags at the graves of fallen veterans.

The sacrifice we honored last week and on Memorial Day represents service at the highest level. For our members, taking the time to acknowledge each veteran was an opportunity to remember their sacrifice with care and gratitude.

At YBLC, service is one of the most important parts of how young adults build confidence, responsibility, and purpose. For our participants, experiences like this help connect personal growth with a deeper sense of responsibility and allow them to reflect on the true meaning of serving your community and country.

Today, we remember the fallen with gratitude and we are proud of our participants for honoring veterans’ service through a small act of service themselves. 🇺🇸

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that wellness is a key part of success in the classroom, on the job site, and in life.

We’re proud to spotlight our partnership with CYN (Community Youth Network), who provides group and individual counseling to support YouthBuild Lake County participants.

We’re also grateful that our new Career Training & Workforce Hub has helped us strengthen our Mental Health & Wellness supports — creating a more welcoming space and enabling higher-quality care for the young people we serve.

🪚🏛️ From the build site to the State Capitol, our YouthBuild Lake County participants showed up with purpose at the YouthBuild Illinois Leadership Summit.

On day one, they put their training into action with a construction demonstration, building confidence alongside real skills. Then they stepped into the State Capitol and into their voice, connecting with legislators, learning how decisions get made, and seeing what’s possible when young leaders take their place in the room.

Beyond meeting with legislators, our participants had the opportunity to network with YouthBuild peers from across Illinois and left with new connections, bigger goals, and momentum to keep building on the job and in the community.

We’re proud to be a part of a Coalition that is strong, thriving, and changing lives across the state. We are excited to keep building what’s next. 🧡

Last Friday, our participants had an incredible opportunity to visit in downtown Chicago for a day centered around career exposure, networking, and professional growth.✨

From touring and witnessing live broadcasting in action, to getting a behind-the-scenes look at careers in media production, our participants were able to explore industries they may have never imagined themselves in before. We were also honored to hear from news anchor Marie Saavedra, who shared insight into her career journey and experiences in broadcast journalism.
The day also included a tour led by the engineers of PGIM/Block 37, where participants learned about the history and innovation behind some of Chicago’s iconic buildings, before ending with a professional development workshop.

Experiences like these help broaden horizons and expose our participants to endless career possibilities. Huge thank you to PGIM, CBS Studios, Marie Saavedra, and the PGIM engineering team for pouring into our young people!
