Congratulations to Recruit Training Command’s top Sailor and Military Excellence Award winner, Seaman Apprentice Wilson Justice, from West Liberty, Kentucky. Seaman Apprentice Justice will attend Religious Program Specialist "A" school in Newport, Rhode Island at the Naval Chaplaincy School and Center.
Recruiting America’s sons and daughters and transforming them into battle-ready warfighters is a team effort. Bravo Zulu to his lead recruiter LS2 William Reno and his Recruit Division Commanders UTC Jerone Kellum, PR1 Deja Jenkins and FC1 Cristine Hovis for their role in forging the Navy’s newest Sailor.

Airman Eliza Ramirez graduated as the top Sailor from Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes, earning the Military Excellence Award (MEA) May 7, 2026.
Ramirez, 18, from Defiance, Ohio, said the news took a moment to fully register.
"When I was told I won the Military Excellence Award, I didn't have an immediate reaction because of the amount of shock I was in," she said. "I couldn't really believe that I, out of the hundreds of Sailors graduating alongside me, was the one who stood out. I could have never earned this award without my division having my back.

Meet Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Henry Branham, a Recruit Division Commander (RDC) at Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes, the Navy's only boot camp.
Branham's path to the Navy was anything but conventional. Growing up in Seattle, Washington, he was surrounded by a family steeped in military service. His father served in the Navy, his uncles served across branches, and his brother is in the Air Force.
But it was his mother, an immigrant who fled a war-torn country in Southeast Asia, who instilled in him an early sense of what it means to be an American. By his own admission, he was a troubled kid who didn't always make the best decisions.
It wasn't until he spent six years in Cambodia as a Buddhist monk that the lessons of discipline, maturity, and independence truly took hold, preparing him for a life of service.
"I joined the Navy to serve my country, follow in my family's footsteps, and apply that hard-earned discipline to a career where I could make a difference," he said.
