At today's House Armed Services Committee hearing, Congressman Seth Moulton looked Pete Hegseth dead in the eye and asked the only question that matters:

"The war costs about $600 per taxpayer. So for my constituents — some of the constituents you wanted to represent in Minnesota — I'm just wondering if they have an extra $600 lying around to pay for your war."

Let that sink in.

The same administration that gutted SNAP, slashed Medicaid, and told struggling Americans to pull themselves up by their bootstraps is now coming back to Congress with a $1.5 TRILLION military budget request — while the Iran war has already cost us $25 BILLION and counting.

Studies show nearly half of Americans can't cover a $400 emergency. A full $1,000 surprise expense would devastate most working families. But sure, Hegseth — let me check my couch cushions for that $600 you need to "kill bad guys."

Meanwhile, the average taxpayer already paid $4,049 for weapons and war in 2025 alone — more than they paid for Medicaid, school lunches, or veterans' care COMBINED.

This isn't defense. This is a blank check being written on the backs of people who are one car repair, one medical bill, one missed paycheck away from disaster.
