As a reminder: Forbes Ave will be closed on Edwards AFB. Please plan accordingly and drive safe!

The closure of the section of Forbes Ave as seen in the picture below will impact the route families take to school. Please be prepared to experience delays when getting to school. For safety reasons, we are asking families to avoid taking short cuts through the housing areas, and as always, follow the posted speed limits as there will be large groups of students walking to school.

As we all get ready to return to school. Please be aware there is currently road construction that will impact families and staff coming from West Gate to the schools. Edwards has provided the following detour information.

🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT: FORBES AVENUE CLOSURE 🚧

Beginning August 10 (following completion of the current Forbes Avenue project), another section of Forbes Avenue will undergo roadway improvements.

📍 Project: Repaving of Forbes Avenue (Nightingale Drive to S. Rosamond Boulevard)

📅 Schedule: August 10 – September 11
Work will not begin until the previous Forbes Avenue project (between Payne Avenue and Mitchell/Nightingale Street) is complete.

🚧 What to Expect:

Full road closure for roadway repaving
Traffic control plan with clearly marked detour routes
Construction activity throughout the project area

🚗 Driver Reminders:
✅ Follow all posted detour signs and message boards.
✅ Stay alert for construction crews and equipment.
✅ Allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.

The Edwards community is taking time to mourn the loss of our eight teammates. Providing resources to the families impacted and our people remains the top priority, as this loss is felt across the test community. We ask everyone to kindly respect individuals privacy at this time.

🔸This morning, the installation stood up the Emergency Family Assistance Center (EFAC) as a centralized, safe environment offering comprehensive services to all of those with base access. The EFAC will remain open until further notice. 🔸

Our hearts go out to the families, loved ones, and our community affected by today’s tragedy.

To help support students who wish to speak with a counselor, they will be available at all summer school programs starting tomorrow.

At this time, all school district summer programs will continue as scheduled.
