North Georgetown Fire Department has been awarded a Ohio Dept of Natural Resources- Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant (ODNR-VFA) While this is a 50/50 matching grant, the total amount is for $16,410 with a cost share of $8,205.
The grant will allow us to purchase wildland firefighting gear, which is a lighter and much cheaper (price wise, not quality) version of our structural gear and allows us to keep our structural gear for structure fires, which is its intended use. While it’s a lighter and cheaper version of our structural gear, this gear can not be used on structure fires, as it doesnt contain the certifications for it, as well as the liners required. This gear can also double as extrication/medical gear, which will allow it to be used on accident scenes, and other non structure fire scenes. This gear with it being lighter and less bulky will also increase maneuverability and also lessen the chance of heat stress when there is warm temperatures.
The second part of the grant award will also allow us to purchase and install a dry hydrant at Zepernick Lake, it will allow water to drafted from the lake without worrying about any apparatus sliding down the boat ramp while drafting or sending a person out onto the ice in winter months to make a hole in the ice to be able to get water. Which is both a huge safety factor. This hydrant will not only assist us, it will also assist several other depts in that area, and many residents.
We would like to thank ODNR for all of the gracious assistance they have provided the North Georgetown Fire Department over the last several years.
