We provide loans, technical assistance and environmental education for small Nicaragua producers to alleviate poverty and promote sustainable agriculture.

SosteNica works to promote sustainable development and poverty alleviation in Nicaragua. There are three major branches of our work:

1. Credit: We provide financial loans to small farmers and business owners through our partner organization CEPRODEL. Our investors in the U.S. help producers procure seeds, cattle, fuel-efficient stoves, tree saplings, sustainable irrigation and more. This is how m

icrocredit can have real, tangible impact on lives in rural Nicaragua.

2. Sos Productivo: In English, Sos Productivo translates to "You are productive." This initiative focuses on bringing tools and technologies to fifty families in the Nagarote district of Nicaragua. The goal is to help increase their agricultural productivity while protecting the environment. There are six current components to Sos Productivo: family gardens, field technical assistance, gender development, agropecuarial training, youth education and community health.

3. Sustainable housing: There is a shortage of housing--and especially sanitary and amenable ones!--in Nicaragua. Houses in the countryside are made of corrugated iron scraps, plastic, wood and concrete. We are working to create a prototype eco-house that would be affordable, eco-friendly and made out of traditional materials. It would highlight sustainable features such as potable water and rain catchment systems, composting and eco-toilets. These three branches reflect our commitment to holistic sustainable development. We tie together all three aspects--the economic, social and environmental--in order to achieve positive impact and meaningful change for our producers in rural Nicaragua.
