North Haven Fire sends our condolences to our extended family in the New Haven Fire Department on the loss of their brother FF Thomas Kochera. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. RIP.

FR Kochera was hospitalized for a medical issue recently and passed this morning. At just 35 years old, he leaves behind a wife and 2 young children. Please keep this family in your prayers. Rest in Peace FF Kochera.

The North Haven Fire Department was proud to participate in the annual Town of North Haven Memorial Day wreath laying ceremony at the town green and parade honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedoms. Rainy weather will not keep us away from the important responsibility of honoring the fallen and their families sacrifices made on our behalf.

Congratulations to CFA Recruit Class 77 and North Haven’s three newest probationary firefighters that successfully completed 15 weeks of fire recruit training and will be assigned to shift to fill current vacancies. The department is happy to have you join us and start working on shift. Well done Hayden, Patrick and Ethan! Now the real work starts.

Learning how to fight fires is like a team sport. Picture a football game without the quarterback or baseball with out the pitcher. Fighting a fire requires a coordinated, staffed and equipped team to be successful. During CFA Recruit training, each new firefighter learns each person’s job and how to quickly and efficiently execute their tasks. Forcing doors, opening the roof, stretching hose lines inside the home, connecting to hydrants and searching and removing victims from fire are all critical skills that our recruits practice.

Today they put these skills to the test in live fire evolutions. Well done North Haven’s newest fire recruits who will be filling vacancies on shift after graduation next month.

A new generation of firefighters is preparing to join the Connecticut fire service as departments struggle with declining numbers.

The North Haven Fire Department wants to recognize our partners on the other side of the microphone as we celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week, April 12-18, 2026. Whether it is a house on fire, a family member having chest pain, or a car accident with injuries, our 911 operators provide life saving instructions and support our personnel on a daily basis. Thanks for having our backs.

Last night our Fire Marshal's Division consisting of Inspectors Ray Saracco and David Obier provided residents an engaging and educational fire extinguisher training course.

Community members learned the types of extinguishers along with the appropriate use through hands-on instruction with a fire extinguisher simulator.

Over the next two weeks our Inspectors will be continuing to provide this training to local businesses, further expanding access to this critical safety education.

Our goal is to build resiliency in our community through education, awareness, and prevention!
