On May 31, 2026, our officers were dispatched to the area of Whitney Avenue following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an individual operating a moped who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

During the initial investigation, the victim reported he had been followed by multiple individuals and was subsequently shot following a dispute.

North Haven Detectives responded to the scene and immediately initiated an extensive investigation. Through neighborhood canvasses, review of surveillance footage, witness interviews, and assistance from local, state, out-of-state, and federal law enforcement partners, detectives were able to identify the suspected shooter as 44-year-old New Haven resident Pedro Poupart.

On the morning of June 9, 2026, North Haven Detectives, with the assistance of the South Central Regional SWAT Team, executed an arrest operation and took Poupart into custody. He was transported to the North Haven Police Department and formally charged with:

• Assault in the First Degree
• Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree
• Criminal Possession of a Firearm
• Illegal Discharge of a Firearm

The North Haven Police Department would like to thank the members of the public who came forward and provided valuable information that assisted investigators in identifying those responsible. We also extend our appreciation to our partnering law enforcement agencies whose cooperation and support were instrumental in advancing this investigation.

The North Haven Police Department has zero tolerance for violence in our community. Those who choose to bring this kind of conduct to our streets should be on notice — we will find you, we will arrest you, and we will pursue every available avenue to ensure you are held fully accountable.

On May 31, 2026, North Haven Officers responded to a retail establishment on Universal Drive following a report of suspicious behavior inside the store.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a family inside the business believed an adult male, identified as 33-year-old Hamden resident Jordan Stevens, used his cellular phone to capture inappropriate photographs and videos of a female victim, without her knowledge or consent.

As the investigation progressed, officers conducted several interviews and obtained digital evidence from Stevens' cellular device that revealed numerous photographs and videos depicting multiple women who appeared unaware they were being recorded or photographed.

Stevens was subsequently arrested and transported to the North Haven Police Department, and charged with Voyeurism with Malice and Breach of Peace. He was held on a $10,000 bond and transported to Meriden Superior Court for arraignment.

The North Haven Police Department remains committed to ensuring that residents and visitors can enjoy local businesses, shopping centers, and public spaces without fear of being subjected to invasive and inappropriate conduct.

Community awareness and prompt reporting are invaluable tools in protecting potential victims and identifying offenders. Those who choose to engage in this type of behavior should understand that the North Haven Police Department will thoroughly investigate these offenses and work diligently to ensure offenders are identified, arrested, and held accountable for their actions.

Today, May 29, 2026, marks 46 years since the passing of Patrolman Timothy Laffin Sr. — the only line of duty death in the history of the North Haven Police Department. Though most of our current officers were not yet born at the time of his death, let alone had the privilege of serving alongside him, his memory remains very much alive within these walls. We honor his two years of dedicated service, his enduring legacy, and the family he left behind — including his expectant wife, Lori, who carried on without him. He will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace, Tim.

On 5/26/26, North Haven Police responded to Valley Service Road after the Department of Public Works reported a pile of illegally dumped trash along the roadside.

We investigated. We found evidence. We identified the responsible party. They were fined $520.

Let this be clear: illegal dumping in North Haven will not be tolerated. It is not a shortcut. It is not someone else's problem. It is a violation of Connecticut law — and we will use every investigative tool available to identify those responsible and hold them accountable. License plates, witness information, DMV records, coordination with neighboring departments — we will follow the evidence wherever it leads. If you use our streets as your own personal dump, expect a court date or a hefty fine.

Our roads, our parks, and our green spaces belong to this community. Trashing them is disrespectful to every resident who takes pride in this town — and we won't stand for it.

This Memorial Day, the members of the North Haven Police Department pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is not simply a celebration or a “happy” holiday; it is a solemn day of remembrance for those who gave their lives defending our freedoms. As we enjoy the freedoms we have today, we must remember they came at a great price.

We encourage our community to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by our fallen heroes and the families they left behind. Their courage and service will never be forgotten.
