Join us this Thursday for dinner and an important conversation about conservation!

Join South Hero Land Trust and Grand Isle County Natural Resources Conservation District for a conversation about conservation!

In 2023, the Vermont Legislature passed the Community Resilience and Biodiversity Protection Act (Act 59). The Vermont Housing & Conservation Board and the Agency of Natural Resources have developed a Draft Conservation Plan Framework, and are now seeking public input before the plan's finalized and sent to the State Legislature. To ensure that Grand Isle County voices are included in the final round of community input, we're hosting a listening session in North Hero on March 26th!

Join us in welcoming Kathleen Swanson to our board! We feel very lucky to have her on the team.

Kathleen has lived in South Hero since 1989 and, along with her husband Rob, they raised three daughters here. Kathleen was a founding board member of the South Hero Land Trust and is passionate about Island farms, woodlands and Lake Champlain. The Swanson family had the honor of working with their neighbors, Guy and Lori Goulet, to conserve 195-acres of farmland and woodland to create a sustainable future for the Goulet Farm.

Our annual Locally Led Conservation Survey is live! It takes less than 5 minutes to fill out and helps to inform how funds will be spent on problems in YOUR communities.

Visit grandislecountynrcd.org or franklincountynrcd.org/local to take the survey.

Locally Led Conservation is all about community voices shaping how we care for our land and water. Local residents, farmers, and partners work with Conservation Districts to decide what our natural resource priorities are and how to take action.

By filling out this survey, you’re helping shape real conservation work in our region. Your feedback, together with recommendations from our Local Working Group, will help guide how USDA-NRCS invests funds locally and support the work our Conservation Districts do every day.

Last year, this process led to the creation of $2 million in funding being funneled into Grand Isle, Franklin, and Lamoille Counties to address concerns.
