AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) is a residential national service program for men and women between the ages of 18 and 24. For 10 months, members will work on teams of 10-12 members to meet urgent community needs through projects that assist in rural and urban development, energy conservation, infrastructure improvement, disasters, as well as environmental stewardship and conse
rvation. AmeriCorps NCCC has responded to every national disaster since the program began in 1994. Projects operate through partnerships with non-profit organizations, state and local agencies, and other community and faith-based groups. Teams will work on a series of different projects, including hurricane recovery efforts on the Gulf Coast, allowing members to experience a variety of experiences as well as different communities and cultures. All corps members and team leaders live and work on campus for the duration of their training at the beginning of each corps year, as well as for transition weeks between project rounds. Campuses start at various times throughout the year to ensure that there are enough trained AmeriCorps members available to respond to national and regional disasters. Sponsoring organizations request the assistance of AmeriCorps NCCC teams by submitting a project application to the regional campus that covers that organization’s state. The campuses provide assistance in completing the application, developing a work plan, and preparing the project sponsor for the arrival of the AmeriCorps NCCC team.
