FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hunter L. Cole Arrested on Child Molesting Charges

On Monday, August 3, 2026, the Knox Police Department was dispatched to the 900 block of South Prettyman Street in response to a reported disturbance. While investigating the incident, officers were provided information regarding the alleged sexual abuse of a child within the residence.

Investigators with the Major Crimes Unit (MCU75) were contacted and responded to the scene, assuming responsibility for the investigation. Over the following week, investigators collected statements and potential evidence related to the allegations. The Indiana Department of Child Services also assisted with the investigation.

The suspect was identified as Hunter L. Cole, 28, of Knox.

On Monday, August 10, 2026, investigators forwarded their report to the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office. Formal charges were subsequently filed, and a warrant was issued by the Starke Circuit Court. Cole faces two counts of Child Molesting, Level 1 Felonies.
Over the past week, investigators made several attempts to locate Cole. Information developed during the investigation indicated that he may be staying in the Plymouth area.

On the afternoon of Friday, August 14, 2026, Cole was located at a residence on 11B Road in Plymouth by officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Plymouth Police Department. Cole was taken into custody and transported to the Starke County Justice Center, where he is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.

The Knox Police Department and Starke County Sheriff’s office would like to recognize the dedication and collaborative efforts of the MCU75 investigators and participating agencies throughout this investigation. Cooperation among local law enforcement and child-protection agencies is paramount to ensuring that allegations of child abuse are thoroughly investigated and that victims receive the support and justice they deserve.

The MCU75 is comprised of the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, Knox Police Department, North Judson Police Department, Hamlet Police Department, North Judson-San Pierre Schools Police Department, and Oregon-Davis Schools Police Department.

All charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
