Congratulations to SFC David L. Nuttall who was recently inducted into the Honorable Order of St. Michael on Veterans Day at the Squantum Club in East Providence which hosts one of the nation’s longest-running Armistice Day/Veterans Day ceremonies honoring local veterans since 1920. The Veterans Day ceremony at the Squantum Club is hosted by the Infantry Lodge Association and commemorates the service of Rhode Island veterans, particularly those from World War I onward.
As a part of the event, SFC Nuttall was inducted into the Order of St. Michael. The Order of Saint Michael is a prestigious award within the Army Aviation community, recognizing individuals who have significantly contributed to Army Aviation, and who served the Army Aviation community with distinction. The award is presented to those who embody the bravery and gallantry associated with the aviation soldier, symbolizing excellence and the values of Army Aviation.
SFC Nuttall initially served on active duty completing Airborne School and serving in the 1/82nd Attack Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. In 1989, David deployed to Panama as part of Operation Just Cause and later deployed to Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in late 1990. In 1994, he was reassigned to Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he was assigned to 6/101st General Support Aviation Battalion successfully completing Air Assault School. He reclassified from Flight Operations Specialist to a UH-60 Blackhawk Mechanic and Crew Chief successfully completed an 18-week school at Ft Eustis, VA. He joined the RI Army National in 1996 soon after he left active duty. David spent time in recruiting and became a full time AGR soldier in April 1997. His initial assignment was the Unit Readiness NCO for HHC 1/126th Aviation Battalion. David also served as a Readiness NCO for the 173rd Infantry; Company A, 1/126th Aviation Battalion; Detachment 23 OSACOM; and Detachment 3/249th Medical Company (Medevac). In 2004, David deployed to Iraq as part of Company A 1/126th Aviation Battalion (Wolfpack). Over the course of his career, David deployed twice to Central America for SOUTHCOM Humanitarian Missions supporting Operation New Horizons. SFC Nuttall completed 105 Parachute Jumps and 1500 hours as an Aviation Crewman. SFC David Nuttall retired in 2008.

SFC David Nuttall comes from a long family linage of many family members having served in the United States Military. His father, David Senior, (also an Order of St. Michael recipient) was a Cobra Gunship Pilot during the Vietnam war and then later served in the RI National Guard. MAJ (Ret) David L. Nuttall, is a Vietnam Veteran and Master Army Aviator who also served as a helicopter instructor pilot in Iran and a maintenance test pilot / aviation instructor pilot in both the RI and NJ National Guard, accruing about 7500 hours military flight time. His Grandfather, George Nuttall served in the Navy during World War II and Korea and both of his uncles are retired Army Officers. His Uncle, Major General James W. Nuttall retired as the Deputy Commanding General, First Army responsible for the training, readiness and mobilization of all National Guard and Army Reserve units across the United States.
