Celebrating our retiring staff today! Tevetha Foots is retiring after 3 years and Teresa Bell is retiring after 23 years. They both work at Indian Hills Elementary School. Leila Hibbler is the manager at Meadow Park Elementary Schooland has served in NLRSD Child Nutrition for 31 years. We are so proud of these ladies and wish them the best in retirement.

This week our FFVP students got to try Ruby Frost apples. They were sweet and crispy. Leila Hibbler, our Meadow Park Elementary School manager of 31 years, retires at the end of this semester. She is so thankful for her time working at North Little Rock Schools and says she will miss everyone so much!

This week for our FFVP program, the students got a vitamin boost with these special Cara Cara Oranges and Red Grapes! The students in Lauren Meeks' first grade class at Lakewood Elementary School loved their red pears and kiwi for their FFVP snacks this week! When Poppy ate her pear she said, "It is really hard to eat because these teeth are out!" She looked like she had it figured out though! De'Nayia said she thought the pear tastes like an apple. Jack said that he liked the juice in the kiwi. Kingston said that the kiwi was sour, but he likes sour stuff. It is so fun to see the kids enjoying and trying new foods!

We had a great visit from someone that we consider Child Nutrition royalty for our Thanksgiving meal at Meadow Park Elementary School. Jerry Swope worked with the Department of Education as the state art specialist then was an area specialist with the Child Nutrition Department for many years. He served approximately 40 years with the Department of Education! We were so thankful to host him for our meal yesterday!

This week, we have a snapshot of Stacey Stoll's 2nd grade class at Crestwood Elementary School enjoying their FFVP snacks! They were served grapefruit wedges and cantaloupe chunks this week for a great vitamin boost! Ollie says, "I love fruit and eating healthy!" Nora loves that she gets to eat so many different fruits with the FFVP program. We love to see these big smiles on the student's faces!

Celebrating fun varieties of apples this week with Mikayla Mallison's third grade class at Lakewood Elementary School! We tried Lucy Glo apples purchased from K Hall & Sons Produce and Sweetango apples from KT Produce. The Lucy Glo apples have pink flesh and the Sweetango are a delicious hybrid of Honeycrisp and Zestar apples! One of the students in her class stated, "These snacks are helpful if some people are hungry." Another said, "Our food days always have special things." We love to see the students exploring new varieties of fruits and vegetables with our FFVP grant at the elementary schools!

This week for FFVP grant snacks our students got to try blueberries and red grapes. We checked in with Jill Tanner's 3rd grade class at Amboy Elementary School. The kids had so many neat things to say about this afternoon snack. Kingston said, "This is my favorite part of the day. I have tried so many new things!" Zara says, "I can't wait to find out what we have every week and my teacher tells about where the fruit comes from." Jacob said, "I have tried fruit I haven't seen at the grocery store with my mom."

Taking a peek at Christin Prater's third grade class at Amboy Elementary School this week during their FFVP snack time. This week for Halloween, we wanted to offer a black and orange theme so we had Black Grapes and Clementines! The kids were exploring their senses and stated the following about the clementines: "They SMELL fruity!" "My orange FEELS sticky!" "I like the sour TASTE of my orange!" We love offering these snacks to help the students nutritionally and with their learning for the day!

School was closed two days during National School Lunch week. On one of the days that our kitchens were closed, our managers came together in Little Rock at Affinity Group's test kitchen and attending a training on new combi ovens that we will receive soon. The ovens are by a company called Rational. These ovens are top of the line technology and bake, roast, air fry, steam and even smoke foods. Proud of the Child Nutrition team for learning new techniques and ways to improve the meals for our students!
