Thank you Chief Hunter! ⭐

CMSgt Jonathan Hunter completed his fini flight as 189th AW Command Chief on June 3. Hunter was competitively selected to be the Senior Enlisted Leader of the National Guard Bureau's Joint Staff J3/4/7 directorate in the National Capitol region!

"As the 189th AW Command Chief, Hunter exemplifies exactly what matters most—humility, passion for the mission, and an unwavering commitment to Airmen," said CMSgt Misty McClean, State Command Chief, Arkansas Air National Guard. "I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to have served alongside him nearly my entire career.

"Chief Hunter is the kind of leader who always has your back, encourages you to be your best, and provides honest, transparent feedback when you need it most. His authenticity, character, and genuine care for people have left a lasting impact on countless Airmen, myself included.

"I value not only his professionalism and leadership, but also the person he is. He leads with integrity, serves with purpose, and never loses sight of those entrusted to his care. I am grateful for our friendship, our shared service, and the example he continues to set every day.

"Having the opportunity to witness his fini flight was especially meaningful. In Air Force culture, a fini flight represents far more than a final flight—it is a celebration of a career, a legacy, and the impact an Airman has made on those around them. Watching him complete this milestone was a fitting tribute to an incredible chapter of service here at the wing and the countless lives he has influenced along the way.

"While it marks the end of one chapter, it is far from the end of his service. As he continues his career on the Joint Staff in D.C., I have no doubt he will bring the same passion, humility, and dedication that have defined his success throughout the years. The wing is better because of his leadership, and our nation will continue to benefit from his service in the years ahead."

Building Capability Through Partnership 🇺🇸🤝🇬🇹

The 189th Airlift Wing transported toolboxes, ammunition, and other donated items to Guatemala on May 27 for a State Partnership Program mission.

The next day, the C-130H aircraft served as a static display during a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence with US Embassy Guatemala members and Guatemalan military guests.

Guatemalan military members, who will be conducting training in the United States, joined the crew for the return trip.

Arkansas and Guatemala became partners in 2002 and have a long, rich history of military and cultural exchanges that have been mutually beneficial to both entities.

Soldiers with the 239th Brigade Engineer Battalion took a break from digging trenches in the training area at Fort Chaffee to conduct a combat field test, June 3, 2026.

The combat field test is a mandatory annual physical assessment specifically for Soldiers serving in 24 high-demand combat military occupational specialties. This test does not replace the standard Army Fitness Test. Soldiers serving in combat occupational fields must pass both assessments to maintain their status.

The CFT enforces a strict, gender-neutral, and age-neutral standard, meaning every soldier must meet the exact same physical benchmarks.

Soldiers perform the entire evaluation in their standard combat uniform with combat boots, removing only their headgear, body armor, and helmet.

The assessment requires participants to complete a demanding sequence of seven events back-to-back within a continuous 30-minute time limit.

The seven-event sequence is designed to simulate tactical battlefield movements and physical exhaustion.

It begins with a 1-mile run, immediately followed by 30 dead-stop push-ups and a 100-meter sprint. Soldiers then transition to heavy lifting by hoisting a 40-pound sandbag 16 times onto a 65-inch platform, carrying two 5-gallon water cans for 50 meters, and executing a high-crawl and rush movement drill before finishing the circuit with a grueling final 1-mile run.

Preparing today for the emergencies of tomorrow.

Soldiers assigned to the Arkansas National Guard's 61st Civil Support Team joined local, state, and federal response partners during a training exercise at CampRobinson designed to strengthen coordination and response capabilities following a simulated disaster involving the release of hazardous materials.

Throughout the exercise, participants practiced hazard assessment, information sharing, and incident response procedures in a realistic training environment. By working alongside partner agencies, responders enhanced their ability to rapidly assess hazards, communicate critical information, and support decision-makers during complex emergencies.

"Ensuring we understand our partners' needs, and that they are familiar with our capabilities and techniques, ensures that we are able to respond rapidly to keep Arkansans safe", said Sgt. 1st Class Jesse Arkless, the decontamination section chief for the 61st CST.

Exercises like this help ensure responders can seamlessly integrate their capabilities when real-world incidents occur, strengthening the collective ability to protect lives, property, and communities across Arkansas.

Minuteman Monday! Airman 1st Class Ella Atwell is a 1N051, all-source intelligence analyst. She discovers, develops, evaluates and provides intelligence information to leaders and decision makers. She’s using her educational benefits to pursue a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity from Liberty University while working full-time in the 188th Wing.

“I chose to become an all-source intelligence analyst because I wanted to be at the center of the mission, where information becomes insight and insight becomes action,” she said. “The role demands curiosity, critical thinking, and the ability to see patterns others might miss, all while contributing directly to the safety and success of the team. The idea of turning complex data into clear assessments that help leaders make informed decisions is exactly the kind of challenge that motivates me. Serving in this position allows me to support something bigger than myself while constantly learning, adapting, and sharpening my analytical skills.”
