It is with a heavy heart that we pause to mourn the loss of Firefighter Juan Antonio Smith II, a member of Rockdale County Fire Rescue in Conyers, Georgia, who was killed in the line of duty on June 12, 2026.
Firefighter Smith, just 26 years old, lost his life when the ladder truck he was riding in was involved in a rollover crash while responding to an emergency call. He answered the call to serve his community just as firefighters across this nation do every day, without hesitation and with a commitment to helping others.
This tragedy is a sobering reminder of the risks firefighters face every time they respond, whether to a fire, medical call, rescue, or any other emergency. The dangers of this profession extend far beyond the fireground, and even routine responses can change lives in an instant.
On behalf of the North Little Rock Fire Department, we extend our deepest condolences to Firefighter Smith’s family, friends, and the members of Rockdale County Fire Rescue. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
Rest easy, brother. We have it from here.
