Shalom and welcome! We had the most magical morning at Between Two Worlds, our multilingual farm animal storytime inspired by the picture book Sunrise, Sunset. Baby chicks, baby goats, stories, and so many smiling faces. What a joy it was to share it with your families. 🐣🐐

Did you know this event is part of a bigger celebration of Yiddish culture happening at Argenta Library this summer? If you are curious to explore more, we have a wonderful adult series coming up in partnership with the Yiddish Book Center , including casual book discussions of Yiddish literature, expert talks with authors and scholars, and take-home activity kits. No knowledge of Yiddish language required!

Heads up, Tiny Chef families! We've made some changes to how registration works for our Tiny Chef cooking program at Argenta Library this summer, and we want to make sure every kiddo gets their spot!

Here's what you need to know:
Registration opens every Tuesday at noon, one week before each session. Register each child individually (no library card needed!) Spots are limited to 40 participants per session. If your schedule changes and you can't make it, please cancel so another child can join. If you already registered for a future Tiny Chef, you'll need to register again!

To register, visit our calendar of events (programs.nlrlibrary.org/events) and select the upcoming Tiny Chef date. Questions? Reach out to us. We're happy to help get your little chef signed up!

What a night! 🩷

A few weeks ago, Dear Diary: A Night Celebrating Adolescent Cringe brought out the bravest, most wonderfully cringe-worthy adults in North Little Rock. They showed up, cracked open their old diaries and poems, and delivered some truly unforgettable moments in front of a room full of people cheering them on. We even had a yearbook signing table and the most nostalgic snack spread you have ever seen. We are so grateful for every single person who shared and everyone who came to laugh with us.

If you loved this, our next after-hours adult event is for you. FREE Silent Disco at Laman Library, Friday, June 12, 6:30 to 8:30pm! Adults 19 and up pick their DJ with
lowing headphones, swap vinyl records, enjoy snacks, games, and a photo station. Come in your best retro look from 70s disco to 90s rave. Register here - https://programs.nlrlibrary.org/event/16426927

Join us June 12–13 for the From the Cradle to the Grave two-day genealogy workshop at the William F. Laman Public Library Lecture Hall, 9:30 AM–12:30 PM each day!

This free, all-ages event explores family history research and cemetery preservation. Guest speakers include Tamela Tenpenny-Lewis presenting on the history and legacy of Odd Fellows Cemetery, plus PAAC Junior sharing youth engagement opportunities in cemetery preservation.

These sessions serve as the finale of a community project documenting the history of Odd Fellows Cemetery and the Military Heights neighborhood in North Little Rock β€” and the opening of a permanent poster exhibit on Odd Fellows and Military Heights!

Presented in partnership with the Preservation of African American Cemeteries and the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Arkansas Chapter. Supported in part by a Curtis H. Sykes Memorial Grant from the Black History Commission of Arkansas and the Arkansas State Archives.

Summer break is here, but learning doesn't have to take a vacation!

The Summer Slide is real: kids can lose up to two months of reading progress over the summer. By 5th grade, that loss can add up to 2.5 to 3 years behind their peers. The good news? You can help.

North Little Rock Public Library has your guide to keeping kids sharp all summer long. Here's how:

Visit us. Our librarians will match every child with the right book for their level and interests. Attend programs and events designed by trained staff to keep young minds engaged. Join the Summer Library Adventure and help kids build confidence by meeting real reading goals.

Quick tips to try at home: pick books that are just the right challenge, set realistic reading goals, and let kids see you reading too.

And don't forget, we have great picks ready to go, from picture books to graphic novels to chapter books.

Stop by and ask a staff member how to get started. We're here all summer. 🌟
