As part of Capital for a Day, E&E Secretary Shane Khoury and staff joined Governor Sanders in Paragould last week, where they met with local partners and visited several operations central to the community and to service delivery across Northeast Arkansas.

Our first stop was Plaza Tire Service to discuss industry challenges and opportunities. The team then met with Paragould Municipal Utilities learning more about local infrastructure needs and utility operations. The day concluded with a community Meet & Greet at The Station, bringing residents, local leaders, and state officials together in downtown Paragould.

From economic development to utility reliability, workforce perspectives, and community partnerships, these visits highlighted the strengths and needs of Paragould and gave state leadership the chance to hear directly from the people who make “The Friendly City” thrive.

Capital for a Day continues to bring senior state officials into communities across Arkansas, listening, learning, and working alongside the leaders who keep our state moving forward.

As part of Capital for a Day, E&E Secretary Shane Khoury and staff joined Governor Sanders in Jonesboro last week, where they met with local partners across Craighead County and toured several key operations that keep Northeast Arkansas thriving.

The day included stops at Craighead County Solid Waste, the ASU Veterinarian School Grand Opening, a community Meet & Greet at The Social, and a visit with Jonesboro City Water & Light, including a tour of their CWL generator site. The afternoon concluded with a tour of Anheuser Busch’s Jonesboro facility.

We also visited our Jonesboro field office, where Office of Water Quality and Office of Air Quality staff shared valuable on the ground insight from the work they do every day.

From solid waste management and utility reliability to higher education investment and local manufacturing, these visits highlighted the industries, infrastructure, and innovation driving Northeast Arkansas, and gave state leaders the chance to hear directly from the people who make it happen.

Capital for a Day continues to bring state leadership into communities across Arkansas, listening, learning, and working alongside the local leaders who keep our state moving forward.

Stacie Wassell, Deputy Director of E&E’s Office of Water Quality, has officially made Arkansas history. She recently received the Association of Clean Water Administrators (ACWA) President’s Service Award—and she’s the first Arkansan ever honored with this award since its inception in 2001.

ACWA recognized Stacie for her exceptional service to ACWA, her leadership, her unwavering support of national clean water initiatives, and her willingness to share her expertise whenever and wherever it’s needed. Her dedication to protecting water resources extends far beyond her role at E&E and her impact is felt across the country.

Stacie, left, received her plaque from ACWA Executive Director Julia Anastasio at ACWA’s Annual Meeting in Santa Fe, where she was celebrated for her outstanding service and commitment to environmental stewardship.
