The members of the North Massapequa Fire Department recently held a successful blood drive in support of Selena Flores, a 2-year-old from the Farmingdale community who was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. “It is always our honor to help others and this was our department’s most successful blood drive, with a total of 94 pints collected,” said Chief of Department Joseph G. Ferrante. “I truly appreciate our caring residents and department members who responded to help Selena and her family. Chief Ferrante also noted that the blood drive potentially saved the lives of many others in need of blood. “It is especially important to donate blood during the summer months when supply can dwindle and demand increases,” Chief Ferrante said. “I ask everyone to be a lifesaver and donate blood.”
Joining with Selena Flores and her family at the North Massapequa Fire Department’s Blood Drive were Commissioner and Ex-Chief Robert J. Schmidgall, Jr. (left), 1st Assistant Chief Marc E. Timpano (second from left), 2nd Assistant Chief Stephen Archipolo (second from right), 3rd Assistant Chief Robert J. Schmidgall III, who coordinated the blood drive (right), and New York Blood Center Representative Linda Wienclaw (third from left). Later, the group joined the Chiefs for a tour of the firehouse and an opportunity to see some of the department’s apparatus.
