Hello, September ❤️💛🕊️There’s something about September that will always feel a little different around here. As we welcome a new month, we’re also making room to recognize Su***de Prevention Month, National Recovery Month, Sickle Cell Awareness Month, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Hunger Action Month and National Literacy Month. Behind each one are real people, real families and real stories that deserve to be seen, supported and surrounded with love.

September also holds a very special piece of our own story. It’s the birthday month Dr. Fab and Lou have always shared, with just six days between them. For a mother and son who shared so much love, September will forever carry memories, emotions and a connection that even heaven could never change.

Lou is so much more than the name of our foundation. He is the heart of it. What began with the love for one incredible son has grown into something that now reaches children, families and communities in his name. Every time we show up for someone, pour into a child, stand beside a family or create a space where people feel loved and supported, we are carrying a little more of Lou into the world.

Love Others Unconditionally. Those three words carry his name and the heart behind everything we do. They remind us why we keep showing up, why we keep loving people and why keeping Lou’s name and legacy alive will always mean so much to this family.

September will always be close to our hearts. It holds awareness, birthdays, memories and another opportunity to keep sharing the love that started all of this. Welcome to September, Lou family. We’re glad you’re here to share this special month with us.

HAPPY 17TH BIRTHDAY, GABI!!! 🥳🎂💛❤️🥹 Today we’re celebrating one of our very own YoungPreneurs, and this one is extra special because we’ve had the blessing of knowing Gabi since she was a little girl.

And now she’s 17 and starting her SENIOR YEAR of high school?! 😭🎓 Like seriously… where did the time go?!

Gabi, you have grown into such a phenomenal young lady. You’re sweet, smart, talented, and you have a genuine love for helping others. Whether you’re volunteering, serving in the community, or simply showing up when someone needs you, that kindness has always been a beautiful part of who you are.

As you step into 17 and your senior year, continue believing in yourself and never be afraid to go after the things you want for your future. You have so much ahead of you, and we hope you always remember that you don’t have to become anyone else to do amazing things. Keep learning, keep dreaming, and keep being Gabi.

We’ve watched you grow up so fast, and it means so much to still have you here with us all these years later. Gabi, we LOVE you, and we hope 17 brings you new experiences, beautiful memories, big opportunities, lots of laughter, and everything your heart deserves.

Lou Family, y’all already know what to do! Help us show our girl some LOVE and wish Gabi the HAPPIEST 17TH BIRTHDAY!!!

Sidney has spent years expressing herself without saying a word. ❤️💃🏾📚 Through dance, every movement and emotion can communicate something different and that became the inspiration behind her first published book, Expression Without Words ™ ©: The Feelings Hidden Behind the Performance.

Sidney brought that part of herself into Lou’s Healing Pages, completed our 90-day program, graduated, received a micro grant and turned her experiences as a dancer into a book that gives readers a look at the feelings that can exist beyond what they see on stage.

Now she’s bringing her book to Lou’s Heartbeat Festival™! Sidney will join our other YoungPreneurs for the YoungPreneurs Book Fair Activation, giving festival guests a chance to meet the young author behind the book, learn more about her journey and grab a copy for themselves.

The Book Fair is just one part of what’s waiting for you! Spend the afternoon enjoying family fun and field games, live entertainment, fitness activities, interactive experiences, giveaways, our Community Resource Fair and so much more while youth empowerment, wellness, education and connection come together in one space.

From loving superheroes to becoming a published author with a story of his own! ❤️📚💛 At just 9 years old, Yasir has already taken an idea from his imagination and turned it into something he can hold in his hands and share with other kids.

It truly takes a community to make something like Lou’s Heartbeat Festival™ possible and we are so grateful for the people who believe in the vision, support the work and help us create something meaningful for our families.

We have to start with a very special thank you to Mr. Leroy Jones, Executive Director of Neighbors and Neighbors Association (NANA) and Lead Organizer of Circle of Brotherhood (COB), our Venue Sponsor and one of our special invited guests for this year’s festival. Mr. Jones has continued to open doors and show love to Lou Foundation in ways that go far beyond this one event. To Mr. Leroy, THANK YOU! Those two words never feel like enough for all you have done and continue to do for Lou Foundation, but we hope you know our hearts and just how much you mean to us.

We also want to give a special thank you to Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall for helping make this opportunity possible. We’re grateful to host Lou’s Heartbeat Festival™ at the Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall Social & Economic Institute and bring our families together in such a meaningful space.

Last year, Senator René Garcia, Miami-Dade County Commissioner, District 13, sponsored Lou’s Heartbeat Festival™ and we remain truly thankful for his generosity. What a blessing it is to have leaders who see what we’re building and are willing to help us make an even greater difference.

We’re incredibly thankful for every sponsor who has poured into Lou’s Heartbeat Festival™ and helped bring it to life. Your generosity and partnership allow us to reach more families and create more opportunities. To our sponsors, community partners, volunteers and Team Lou, THANK YOU! We appreciate each and every one of you and we’re excited to have you with us.
