Freedom is the United States' founding promise. But for hundreds of thousands of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, including Haitian families who have built lives, careers, and communities across this country, that promise remains painfully out of reach.
True liberty cannot coexist with fear.
True independence cannot coexist with the threat of deportation.
Freedom should mean safety, opportunity, and the ability to live, work, and raise a family with dignity and a sense of belonging.
As we celebrate US Independence Day, we must not forget a truth history often overlooks: Haiti helped make the US Revolution possible. Haitian soldiers provided direct military aid to the US colonies during the Revolutionary War.Â
Today, Haitian families who have contributed immeasurably to this country are fighting for something fundamental: the freedom to remain with their families, keep their jobs, care for their children, and live without the constant fear of separation and deportation.
That is why we support Senate Bill 4814 and also call for permanent protections for TPS holders.
Freedom must mean more than fireworks and celebration.
It must mean dignity.
It must mean stability.
It must mean justice for all.
This July 4th, don’t just celebrate the liberty you have. Fight for the liberty every family deserves.
Stand with Haitian families. Stand with immigrants.  Demand freedom — for all. Â
