The color of the flag flying at the beach can tell you important information about current surf and water conditions. Understanding what each flag means can help keep you and your family safe while enjoying the ocean.

🌊 Green Flag – Low Hazard
🌊 Yellow Flag – Medium Hazard
🌊 Red Flag – High Hazard
🌊 Double Red Flags – Water Closed to the Public
🌊 Purple Flag – Dangerous Marine Life Present

Conditions can change quickly, so always check the flags before entering the water and follow the guidance of lifeguards and public safety personnel.

A safe day at the beach starts with knowing the conditions. Stay informed, stay alert, and enjoy your time in North Myrtle Beach.

Chief Crowell accepted the North Myrtle Beach Optimist Club Police Officer of the Year Award on behalf of NMBPD Officer James Bosworth, who was unable to attend. SC State Senator Greg Hembree presented the award that honors First Responders who embody the Optimist Club’s values of Optimism, Integrity, Respect, and Global Community. Officer Bosworth’s work ethic and selfless service to our community embodies these values and he very much deserves this award.
