The North Oaks Rummage Sale is around the corner! This event is organized by the North Oaks Guild II and proceeds go to fund programs at Children’s Minnesota. Drop-off your gently used household items on Saturday, August 29 between 9 - 1 pm at the Shoreview Ice Arena. The North Oaks Planning Commission meeting on Thursday, August 27 at 7 p.m. has been canceled due to lack of business. The next Regular Planning Commission meeting will be Thursday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m.

Saint Paul Regional Water Authority will be on Pleasant Lake today (8/19) conducting water sampling by boat. The City of North Oaks and Homeowners Association is aware of this authorized activity.

Fighting Fraud - Free Education Seminar
Free Public Safety Event - Supported by Ramsey County Sherriff's Office

The Ramsey County Sherriff's office is partnering with a large group of credit unions that have come together to host “Credit Unions Fighting Fraud – Free Educational Seminar.”

This FREE event will be held Thursday, August 20, from 4:00–7:00 PM at the Shoreview Community Center. Deputy Ouelette will be the local law enforcement representative and will also have an informational booth focused on fraud and scam awareness and prevention.

The event will include:

Free small-electronic-waste recycling (such as cell phones, laptops, ipads)
Free paper shredding
A 75-minute educational seminar featuring multiple presenters discussing:
Inside the Scam: Understanding the Mechanics
The Evolving Threat: Emerging Scam Tactics
AI, Deepfakes & the New Age of Deception
Defending Your Digital Wallet: Protecting Yourself & Your Money

Following the seminar, participating credit unions and supporting agencies will have informational booths covering a variety of fraud and scam topics, including romance scams, impersonation scams, cryptocurrency scams, identity theft, phishing, investment and job scams, check and wire fraud, fraud recovery, and general scam prevention.

Why this matters: Statistics of fraud-related cases from just the last month in our local contract cities reflected approximately 17 reported fraud cases with a minimum documented loss of $1.236 million. That represents only six cities and does not include the broader impact across Ramsey County.

Fraud can affect anyone, anywhere, and at any time. One of the most effective tools we have is education—helping people recognize scams before they become victims and, if they do fall victim, knowing what steps to take quickly to prevent additional losses.

This event provides a valuable opportunity to put practical information and resources directly into the hands of our residents.

The polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
