Yesterday, North Reading resident and Manager of Government Sales and Engineering for Boston Dynamics Stephen Ryan brought Spot to the police department to show some of its capabilities. We are not buying a Spot...it was just a demo.

**Update- Lowell Road back open**

Please avoid Lowell Road heading into Wilmington. Lowell Road shut down in Wilington due to Motor vehicle crash into pole. Lowell road is shut down in North Reading at North Street.

Today, our own Sgt. Michael Marra and Det. Paul Lucci proudly participated in the 2026 Special Olympics Massachusetts Law Enforcement Torch Run Cruiser Convoy to kick off the Summer Games!

The convoy rolled out with hundreds of law enforcement vehicles lighting up the highways in support of athletes across the Commonwealth.

It was a powerful show of unity, pride, and community spirit.

A huge thank you to Sgt. Marra and Det. Lucci for representing North Reading PD and standing with the Special Olympics movement. We’re honored to support these incredible athletes!

The North Reading Police Department is investigating significant damage to the grass playing fields at Ipswich River Park.
Overnight, from Monday, June 1st into Tuesday, June 2nd, a vehicle repeatedly did donuts on the fields, causing extensive damage.

Traffic Advisory

Lowell Road, between Main Street and North Street, will be closed to through traffic for approximately two weeks while Water Department work is being performed.

Work will take place Monday through Friday, approximately 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. During these hours, Lowell Road will be closed to through traffic within the work zone.

Detail officers will be on scene to assist residential traffic. All other traffic should use Main Street and North Street as the posted detour route.

Road closure signs will be placed at the intersections of Main Street and Lowell Road, and North Street and Lowell Road.

Please plan for additional travel time and use caution in the area.
