🎈 Our final all-school enrichment program of the year took us to new heights! 🎈
At the end of May, students had the exciting opportunity to learn all about hot air balloons. They watched as the crew inflated a giant balloon outside and learned about the weather conditions needed for a successful flight. While the wind kept the balloon from standing upright, it gave us a great real-life lesson in how important weather is for ballooning!
Students then moved to the gym, where they got to sit inside a hot air balloon basket, learn how balloons work, discover the traditions of ballooning, and ask plenty of great questions.
One of our favorite moments was learning about the centuries-old tradition of presenting champagne after a flight. Dating back to 18th-century France, balloon pilots would offer champagne to farmers as a gesture of goodwill when landing in their fields. To honor that tradition, the crew presented Mr. Maloney with a bottle! 🍾
What a memorable way to wrap up this year’s enrichment programs! 💚💛
