Gravestone Conservation Workshop

The Town of North Salem and the North Salem Historical Society will hold a Gravestone Conservation Workshop at June Cemetery on Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 9am – 3pm . Join John Griffin, of Griffin Gravestone Conservation, to learn how to clean and preserve historic headstones.

Cooling Center: An extreme heat warning has been issued for July 1 and 2.

Temperatures will be near 100. Please check in on some of your elderly neighbors if you are able.

The North Salem Community Center at 3 Owens Road will be open from 9:00am - 4:30pm and will act as our cooling center. Please feel free to stop by if you need to cool off. We have some computers and games for your use or feel free to sit in the lounge and simply read a book and have some coffee.

**Update No. 004: Site 3 - Route 116 bridge over the Titicus River**

With Stage 1 construction complete, NYSDOT Contractor has shifted traffic to the new alignment, allowing crews to begin the final Stage 2 of the bridge replacement project. Traffic remains reduced to one alternating lane on State Route 116, controlled by temporary signals.

Stage 2 is progressing on schedule:
- Traffic has been successfully switched.
- All structural demolition (bridge rails, deck, beams, and abutments) and excavation are complete.
- Repairs to the remaining substructure are finished.

Phase 2 Look-Ahead:
- Forming and pouring concrete substructures.
- Backfilling the bridge approaches.
- Erecting the steel girders.
- Installing deck stay-in-place forms.

Construction Update No. 003-1: Site 3 - Route 116 bridge over the Titicus River

Greetings,

As the Route 116 Bridge replacement project progresses, the Contractor is shifting from Stage 1 (Eastbound) to Stage 2 (Westbound) construction.

Here are the key details for tomorrow's traffic switch:

• When: Tomorrow, May 21st, 2026, at 11:00 am
• Duration: Approximately 15 minutes
• Traffic Pattern: Alternating single-lane traffic controlled by temporary signals. The new alignment will remain highly similar to Stage 1 layout.

Under day-to-day supervision of the Building Inspector, candidate will perform administrative, clerical, and record keeping duties calling for confidentiality and the use of independent judgment. The position requires interaction with applicants, professionals, attorneys, the public and members of the Zoning Board of Appeals. Candidate must be available to attend evening meetings as required, usually 1 to 4 times per month

5/24 UPDATE - Due to the weather, the parade portion of Memorial Day Ceremony has been canceled. Please join us at Croton Falls Fire Department (1 Sun Valley Drive) to honor the men and women who gave their lives serving our country. The ceremony will take place at 10:00 AM. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

The North Salem American Legion Post 1866 would like to invite you to participate in the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Monday May 25, 2026.
