Monarch migration season is upon us. Our Life Cycle Butterfly House is open and shows the different stages of the Monarch Butterfly life cycle. From egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to adult butterfly. Stop by and take a look. Once butterflies are ready, we will tag them and wish them luck on their incredible journey to Mexico.

South Dakota State Park merchandise is now available! If you love SD State Parks or know someone that does, these are great items to have in your wardrobe. Grab a sweatshirt for those cool evenings, a t-shirt for those warm days, and a water bottle for when you are hiking or biking the trails. Stop by our vistor center and pick some up today!

We are in the process of updating our Sonny's Acres Barn. The staff has been working hard building our new outdoor coop for the ducks, chickens, and geese. They will definitely enjoy their new outdoor space. Hope to see you at the park soon!

Congratulations to Vikki J. from North Sioux City, our Week 15 Adventure 250 prize winner!

Vikki completed her Adventure 250 adventures and won an Eggory Inflatable Paddleboard. Vikki received her prize at Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve, where it was presented by Game, Fish and Parks staff and a representative of Rubida Insurance in Elk Point, SD, a proud member agency of our generous prize sponsor, Independent Insurance Agents of South Dakota.

Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve features close to 10 miles of trails that wind through prairie, forest and along the riverbank. It is National Dog Day today! Come to the park and take you dog for a walk. While you hiking, take some time to look for our glass medallions. There are still more out near the trail systems. We say thank you to Nora and Xander for their awesome work as interns this summer at Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve. We appreciate all of the programs, summer camps, maintenance work, creativity, customer service, and education they provided for all that came to the park. We wish them good luck as they head back the South Dakota State University for college.

Happy 30th Birthday to our sweet Peppy! We hope she has a great day grazing and enjoying the beautiful sunshine at Sonny's Acres. We will treat her with some apple slices and carrots. Come on out to the park and wish her a Happy Birthday!
