Niagara County recently announced a new pilot Home Improvement Program that will provide grant funding to eligible homeowners in the City of North Tonawanda and the City of Lockport. Funded through the New York State Landbank Initiative and administered by the Niagara Orleans Regional Land Improvement Corporation (NORLIC), the program is designed to help middle income families complete critical home repairs, supporting neighborhood stability and preventing long term property decline.

Notice of Public Hearing

Monday, January 12, 7PM
North Tonawanda City Hall, 2nd Floor Conference Room

A hardship appeal hearing will be held for the purpose of the property owner and any interested parties to present their views on an LED sign Certificate of Appropriateness denial for 107 Main Street submitted by Cornerstone Community Federal Credit Union.

A conditional approval of signage without the LED signage portion was approved on November 13, 2025. Proposed LED signage shown on slide 2.

Our HPC meets the third Monday of every month at 6pm to review Certificates of Appropriateness for our Local Districts and Landmarks. The images above are examples of what will be reviewed at this month’s meeting with changes relating to the downtown placemaking plans.

In the Spring 2024 edition of Western New York Heritage, there is a nice article with great local interest. “’Better-Built, Ready Cut’ The Neighborhood-Shaping Impact of Bennett Kit Homes,” by Gregory Pinto examines the Bennett Lumber Company of North Tonawanda and the home building kits it sold. Also, in the magazine is “Old Photo Album: A Bevy of Bennett Homes” which links specific Bennett kit models to several North Tonawanda homes.
