Sweeney Hose Company #7 - Online Store

Hello everyone,
We hope everyone continues to be safe and healthy and look forward to when all of this craziness is over, whenever that is.

We have been asked by many when our gun raffle will happen and as of now the new date is September 19, 2020.

If you would like to purchase a ticket please follow the link to our online store.
If you are not a gun person that’s okay. The winner is handed a gift card in the amount that the gun is worth. Since all prizes are being purchased through Cabella’s you can use that gift card for anything in the store. So if you are a camper, boater, etc. you can use the gift card for whatever you like.

Hope you will consider supporting this fundraiser. And as always, we appreciate your support!

If you are looking for a great fish fry, please try our friends at TC Wheelers in the city of Tonawanda. We want to promote those who have always been huge supporters of ours and TC Wheelers has been one of the biggest. Check out their menu and give them a try.

Remember to try and support as many small businesses as possible during this trying time.

With this ongoing pandemic there have been many people walking around with masks and many people have asked what the best masks you could use. Below is a chart with level of effectiveness depending on what you are trying to protect yourself against. COVID-19 is a virus so an N95 mask or surgical mask is your best bet. Homemade cloth masks , bandannas even with a coffee filter inside them really isn’t doing much.

Removing your mask is just as important as wearing it. You should NEVER use your hands to pull the mask off from the front of your face unless you are using fresh, clean gloves and you drop it directly into the trash. Other wise use your thumbs or index finger to remove the mask by pulling the straps from around your ears and dropping it straight into the trash or the bin you store it in until you can clean it. Make sure to wash your hands immediately.

Wearing gloves to the store or public place really isn’t helping you. Washing your hands and not touching your face until you wash your hands is a far better option for you. If you have wipes that you can carry on you to wipe shopping cart handles is your best bet when at the grocery store.

Once you get home from your errands, wash your hands. Grab a cleaning wipe and wipe down your door handles, steering wheel, gear shifter and anything else you came into contact in your car. When done throw your wipe(s) away and re wash your hands.

Cleanliness is godliness!

Above all, stay home. Don’t go anywhere unless you absolutely have to and be safe.

We hope everyone is staying safe during this time.

The largest summer event in the Tonawanda’s has been canceled for this year. It’s sad to see how many people are excited about it. The things they say about this event is shocking and hurtful. What most people don’t realize is organizations like us depend on this event to survive. We are given very little money from the city and depend on our fundraisers to survive. Canal Fest makes up about 80% of our income. This is why we are able to attend events and provide things like the free fire truck rides and hats for kids. Not to mention donations to other organizations and free hall rentals for local families who are raising funds for sick family members.

It’s going to be a very trying year for us but we will fight to continue on and we will work hard at figuring out how to make up some of this lost income. We send our thoughts and prayers to the other organizations that this will effect and hope they will be able to stay afloat.

To the Canal Fest organizers, we understand how hard of a decision this was and we know it had to be done. Thanks for trying to figure it out and we look forward to working with you next year.

Just a reminder that our fish fry is closed for the rest of the season due to the COVID-19 virus. We hope that everyone is safe and well and want to thank everyone who has supported our fish frys . We will miss seeing everyone and look forward to next year when we reopen.

If you are looking for a great fish fry and an amazing menu, check out our friends at TC Wheelers in the city of Tonawanda. These guys know how to cook. They are also the ones who taught us how to cook our baked fish so if you like our fish you’ll like theirs. They also have supported us and so many other organizations in the Tonawandas that we would like to give them a little shout out and refer them to our friends and customers. Remember to support local businesses especially at this trying time.

Much love and prayers to everyone that we all get through this safely.

03/29/2020

It’s with great sadness that we must cancel our last two fish frys. With the growing cases of COVID-19 we do not want to risk our members and our community. This was a tough decision but we feel that safety is more important at this time.

We are also postponing our Gun raffle that was set for April 18th. Once we decide on a new date we will let everyone know. The tickets you purchased will still be good so please don’t worry about that. Tickets are still available and can be purchased on our website at www.sweeneyhose.org

We would like to thank everyone who has supported our fundraisers. We can’t exist without your support and we hope this temporary life that we are all going through ends soon. Please be safe and please watch out for each other. We will continue to respond to calls to help those people who need us.

Take care and hopefully we’ll be back in business soon. In the meantime please support local restaurants and pizza places and help keep people in our community working.

Much love to everyone!

We at Sweeney Hose send our thoughts and prayers to our brothers and sisters at Active Hose as well as the Van Hise family on the passing of Rick. Rick loved the fire service and donated many years to the Active Hose company and the fire department as a whole.

Rest In Peace, brother.

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of long time member and Recording Secretary, Rick van Hise after a lengthy illness. Rick, a 38 year veteran of the fire service was a second generation volunteer firefighter, an avid drummer, and an all around great guy, but most importantly a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Our most sincere condolences to Diana, Jamie, Ryan, Adam, Steve, Doug, and the rest of the Van Hise family. Rest easy, brother Rick, we have it from here. #WeMournOurLoss

01/23/2020

Today a true leader and a legend is working his last shift for the North Tonawanda Fire Department. Assistant chief Rick Kozak has been part of the fire department for 42 years. He began his firefighter career with Sweeney Hose in 1978 where he held the rank of Captain for over 10 years. In 1993 he was hired by the career department and worked his way up from firefighter to captain and finally assistant Chief.

Chief Kozak is a very humbled human being. He lead by example and never once ever acted as if he was better than anyone else. He took the time to help both career and volunteer firefighters with learning the trade. He will truly go down in the history books as one of the greatest men to ever serve on the North Tonawanda Fire Department.

On behalf of the membership of Sweeney Hose we would like to congratulate Assistant Chief Kozak on his 42 years in the fire service and wish him all the best on his well deserved retirement.

Today our senior Assistant Chief is working his final tour of duty and hanging up his turnout gear for the last time.
He was hired in 1993, and attended the NYS Fire Academy in Montour Falls. Upon his return, he worked Engine 7/Dispatch and Relief positions over the years until being promoted to Captain of Platoon 1 in 2003. He was promoted to Assistant Chief of Platoon 2 in 2007, the position he retires from today. He is a premiere Paramedic and EMS provider. He is a street savvy, common sense Fire Officer. Make no mistake, this job hasn't passed him by and he is going out at the top of his game.
He has literally lived up to the title of "Assistant Chief" helping several Chiefs through purchases of apparatus, EMS updates and many other department issues. He is beloved and admired by his crews and it is not an exaggeration to say he is one of the most respected Assistant Chiefs in department history.
He has been a true guiding light of the department, including overseeing the transition of the whole NTFD from Basic EMT provider level to Critical Care/Paramedic level in 2000. He has also served as the EMS Officer of the department for many years and has helped work through the countless changes in State paperwork and recert requirements that have taken place.
He has received numerous awards over his career for his service in the NTFD.
He has been an active and valuable member of the Local 1333 organization, serving as the long time Vice President and Officer Steward. He has helped almost every other committee and supported all Local 1333 activities during his time on the job.
Additionally, he served the NYSPFFA 1st District as Health and Safety Officer for years.
He has been an invaluable asset to the WNY EMS Community as a whole. Prior to his time on the NTFD, he worked shifts at Twin City Ambulance, and his Friday night ambulance rotation with former legendary NTHS Teacher and Paramedic Tim Frank are well entrenched in the pages of local EMS history.
If you have been involved in EMS in the WNY area at any point over the last 40 years, you are indebted to this man. He served as an EMS Educator at NCCC and has had long tenures on both the Niagara County EMS Committee and the regional Big Lakes EMS Council. Oh, by the way, did we forget to mention... he is a trained Master Auto Mechanic, and was freely giving of his time and talent to help coworkers and their families with vehicle issues by fixing them or helping them with whatever he could.
After 27 years of dedicated service to the North Tonawanda Fire Dept, the Local 1333 Organization and the City and Community of North Tonawanda, we would like to wish Assistant Chief Rick Kozak a very long, happy, healthy and well deserved retirement!
Congrats Chief, and we'll catch up with you on the back 9 someday... ⛳
Posted below are pictures of Chief Kozak during his last bailout drill. Knowing he was close to retirement, he could've sat it out. But true to his character of always leading from the front, he said, "If my guys are bailing out the window, I'm bailing out the window".
Now he's "bailed out" to retirement. :)

Hey guys I designed and build helmet mount flashlights exclusively for the fire service. They are lightweigh, bright and rugged. They attach without altering your helmet and operate on a single AA battery. At $20 they are the Best Buy for your money on the market.
Thank you for your services !
