Noticing the yellow tint to the sky over Cape Cod today?

Smoke from wildfires burning in Canada has traveled hundreds of miles, creating hazy skies across parts of New England.

While those fires are far away, they're a reminder that wildfire preparedness happens close to home.

Here on Cape Cod, AmeriCorps Cape Cod members help reduce wildfire risk by clearing brush and tackling wildfire prevention projects throughout the region. Cape Cod Cooperative Extension is also leading an effort to update the Cape's Community Wildfire Protection Plan through a U.S. Forest Service Community Wildfire Defense Grant.

Today's sky is a reminder that preparing today can help protect our communities tomorrow. Learn more about the Community Wildfire Protection Plan update and the federal grant supporting this work: https://www.capecod.gov/2025/10/15/cape-cod-wildfire-planning-grant/

Are your news feeds warning of the "explosive diarrhea" outbreak?Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal infection caused by the Cyclospora cayetanensis parasite, from ingesting contamination food or water. It does not spread directly from person to person.

The CDC is investigating hundreds of cases spanning at least 18 states, with heavy clusters reported in New York, Texas, Illinois, and Michigan.

Outbreaks are almost exclusively linked to eating contaminated fruits, vegetables, and herbs — especially those imported from regions with warmer climates.

No one fully knows how Cyclospora gets into food and water, but basic hygiene and safe food handling are always recommended.
