Task Force Operation Takes Suspected M**h Dealer Off the Streets
North Vernon Police Department Press Release
On June 18, 2026, officers with the North Vernon Police Department conducted a complex narcotics operation that resulted in the arrest of James Wade Baker of Indianapolis.
At approximately 11:15 p.m., Baker was taken into custody following a narcotics investigation targeting the distribution of methamphetamine. During the operation, Baker allegedly attempted to flee in a vehicle and resist law enforcement officers before being apprehended.
Baker was arrested on preliminary charges of:
Dealing in M**hamphetamine
Possession of M**hamphetamine
Obstruction of Justice
Resisting Law Enforcement (Vehicle Flight)
Resisting Law Enforcement
Driving While Suspended Prior
Possession of Paraphernalia
The operation was led by Task Force Commander Graham Heffelfinger, Sergeant Driver, Reserve Officer Gary Driver, Deputy Smock, Deputy Corya, Deputy Amis, and Sergeant Carter.
Task Force Commander Heffelfinger stated:
"This operation demonstrates the strength of teamwork and the commitment our officers and deputies have to protecting our community. I would like to personally thank Reserve Officer Gary Driver and the deputies of the Jennings County Sheriff's Office for their dedication, professionalism, and assistance throughout this investigation. Their efforts were instrumental in bringing this operation to a successful conclusion. Together, we remain committed to disrupting the flow of dangerous narcotics and making our communities safer for everyone."
The investigation remains ongoing. All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
