Jennings County 911 proudly joins communities across the nation in celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, April 12–18, 2026, by honoring the outstanding men and women who serve as the vital first link in every emergency response. Often called the “first, first responders,” 911 telecommunicators are the calm, professional voices on the other end of the line when someone dials 911. They are the very first public safety professionals to answer every emergency call—medical, fire, law enforcement, or other crisis—24 hours a day, seven days a week. While police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel respond to specific incidents, telecommunicators manage every single emergency that occurs in Jennings County during their shift. These professionals carry an enormous responsibility on their shoulders, in a matter of seconds, they must gather critical information, stay composed under extreme pressure, dispatch the appropriate resources, and provide lifesaving instructions to callers—all while managing multiple emergencies at once. It takes a truly special person with a unique combination of skill, compassion, and strength to do this job day in and day out.”National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is an annual opportunity to recognize the men and women who answer the calls that others cannot. Their work often goes unseen by the public, yet it is the foundation upon which all other emergency services operate. Jennings County 911 extends its deepest gratitude to its exceptional team of telecommunicators for their unwavering commitment to protecting and serving the citizens of Jennings County. Their professionalism, quick thinking, and dedication make our community safer every single day. Thank you to our 911 telecommunicators—you are the unsung heroes who answer the call when it matters most.

Severe Weather Preparedness Week – March 8–14, 2026
Jennings County 911 along with Jennings County EMA is participating in recognizing Indiana Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
Severe weather season in Indiana can bring tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, large hail, damaging winds, and flash flooding.
Tuesday, March 10 at 10:15 AM (EDT) is the annual Statewide Tornado Drill.
A Statewide Tornado Warning Test will take place if weather permits.
During the test all outdoor warning sirens across Jennings County will sound,
NOAA Weather Radios will broadcast the test message, and
local media may participate in the statewide drill.
This is only a test, but we encourage everyone to treat it like a real tornado warning.
During a warning everyone should move to your designated safe area (basement or interior room on the lowest level, away from windows).

To prepare for severe weather everyone should:
Review tornado safety procedures at home, work, or school.
Confirm emergency plans with family members.
Know the difference:
Tornado Watch – Conditions are favorable for tornadoes
Tornado Warning – A tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar. Take shelter immediately.
Have multiple ways to receive warnings:
NOAA Weather Radio
Trusted weather apps
Local media
Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA)
Now would be a good time to subscribe to Rave by texting JC911 to 226787
Build an emergency kit:
Include water, non-perishable food, flashlight, extra batteries, first aid supplies, medications, and important documents.
Identify your safe place:
A basement is best. If you don’t have one, use an interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows.
Preparing today can save your life tomorrow.

Please stay off the roads.
