This past Thursday, May 28th, the volunteers of the Anglesea Fire Company and North Wildwood Volunteer Fire Co. trained on the operation of Engine 2-1.

This department cross training allows for any qualified driver-operators to utilize either companies apparatus.

Recent procedural changes will have more intra-departmental operational responses to emergencies. This cross training will allow for a seamless transition into those procedures.

This past Thursday, April 23rd, the volunteers of the Anglesea Fire Company, reviewed the use and operation of our portable fire pump.

The evening’s session included the routine maintenance of the pump and engine. The team then brought the pump out and hooked it to a water supply and then flowed water through a handline.

This portable pump is a vital operational component during high water events. The pump is placed on one of the high water vehicles and prepared for firefighting operations.

This week we take the time to thank the Telecommunicators of the Cape May County 911 Center. They are the first, of the first responders. They’re that calm voice you hear when you call 911 with your emergency. They are the steady voice during chaos; the safe port in a storm; the reassurance that help is on the way.

This week we celebrate and thank the men and women of our County’s Emergency Communications Center for their dedication and commitment to serving the citizens of the county as well as all of the fire responders. We may not see their faces, but we do hear those professional and reassuring voices on the radio.

Happy National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week! We appreciate all of you.

This past Thursday, April 9th, the volunteers of the Anglesea Fire Company, participated in a department training session.

The evening’s session included an operational review of our self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). These are the tanks of compressed air you see on our backs. The units are a complicated system of using a tank, hoses, mask and regulators that allows us to enter smokey atmospheres without breathing in toxic smoke or gases.

The second part of the drill was to conduct a proper search and rescue of trapped civilian as well as firefighters.

Today the members of the Anglesea Volunteer Fire Company came together to say goodbye to one of our associate members, Marie Karolyi.

We will miss Marie’s contagious smile around the fire house and specifically at our annual Blues and BBQ Festival, where Marie was a regular, always helping out.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Karolyi family, especially to her husband, and active Anglesea firefighter, George. Rest in peace , Marie.

The weather forecast for this weekend calls for accumulating snow in North Wildwood. As our City Departments prepare for the storm, please review the following reminders and information to help you get ready:

- Our Department of Public Works will soon be salting the roads to prepare for the storm. Plowing operations will begin once 3-4 inches of snow has accumulated. The trucks plan to plow the North-South streets first, followed by the East-West streets, and lastly the alleys and lanes. Please be patient as they work tirelessly to clear the roadways.

- During the snow, the public is encouraged to remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary. If you need to travel, we ask that you please maintain a safe distance from any salt or plow trucks so they may operate safely and effectively.

- If possible, we ask that all vehicles be moved to your off-street parking space, so the plows can clear snow as close to the curb as possible.

- When clearing your property of snow, we ask that you do not place any snow piles on the streets or sidewalks.

- The North Wildwood Snow Emergency Routes shall be designated to the following roads: New Jersey Ave. (entire length), Atlantic Ave. (entire length) and all roads adjacent to Margaret Mace School (1201 Atlantic Ave.), Wildwood Catholic Academy (1500 Central Ave.) and St. Simeon’s by the Sea School (2502 Central Ave.). When snow has fallen and accumulation covers the street, no vehicle shall be parked in the designated Snow Emergency Routes. The parking prohibitions shall remain in effect until the street is no longer covered with snow or until the street has been plowed from curb to curb. Any vehicle parked in the Snow Emergency Route is subject to be towed.

- On Sunday, January 25, the North Wildwood Recycling Convenience Center will be CLOSED so personnel may assist with snow removal operations.

- All North Wildwood Beaches Entrances will be CLOSED to the public. Vehicles are not permitted on the beach during the winter storm. Any violations of this policy shall be subject to penalties.

- Due to the nature and volume of storm-related operations, the City of North Wildwood will be unable to assist with snow removal at private properties. In the event of an emergency requiring you to leave your home, please call 911. If travel is absolutely necessary, residents are encouraged to contact a private landscaping or snow removal company for assistance.

More information regarding the City of North Wildwood’s Snow Removal procedures may be found at https://northwildwood.com/snow-removal-procedures-information/

Stay tuned to our City pages for any updates during the winter weather event. We thank you in advance for your cooperation, and enjoy the snow!
