Due to ongoing dry weather and increasing drought measures the entire area is under a burn ban including Madison, Leon, Grimes and Robertson Counties.

While each county may have slightly different specifics, essentially outdoor burning outside of a contained and covered enclosure (like a grill or bbq pit) is prohibited.

Neighboring departments have been busy with grass and brush fires, many the result of open burning.

A copy of the order for Madison County is available on the Madison County website. At present our drought index is approaching 700, which means the county is on average needing 7 inches of rainfall over time to fully saturate the ground. Burn bans typically get enacted around a drought index of 600 or when excessive wildfire activity is occurring.

Wednesday around 11am first responders were requested for an unconscious party on Oxford cemetery road. A paramedic with the department arrived until EMS Medic 41 could make scene.

Tonight, Thursday around 9:15 pm we we responded to a grass fire and open burning on Denmam Rd in far southern north Zulch. We arrived with two brush trucks and extinguished the burning materials.

Don’t forget, Madison and surrounding counties are under a burn ban due to dry conditions.

Just after 10 am we were dispatched to assist Madisonville Fire/Rescue on a brush fire that subsequently involved a trailer off North Mciver and Mathis Meadows. We responded with brush trucks and manpower. Additionally Midway Vol. Fire Department responded as well.

As we were returning from that incident, just after 11am, we were dispatched to an unknown type fire at FM 1372 and Homer. We found a controlled burn in a dugout pit. Due to the ongoing burn ban we extinguished the pit.

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend. Please refrain from open outdoor burning until conditions improve.

🚒 EXCITING NEWS FOR NORTH ZULCH VFD! 🚒

The Madison County Historical Commission, TX notified our Chief this week that their application for a Texas Historical Marker recognizing the North Zulch Volunteer Fire Department has been approved!

From here, we understand the process of completing and receiving the marker will take approximately 18–24 months, but we are incredibly honored to have reached this milestone.

We would like to sincerely thank the Madison County Historical Commission for selecting our department for this distinguished recognition and for the tremendous amount of research, time, and work that went into preparing and submitting the application. We truly appreciate their efforts to document and preserve the history of our department and our community.

For more than six decades, generations of North Zulch volunteers have answered the call to serve their neighbors. We are proud of the volunteers—past and present—whose service, sacrifice, and dedication built the history we are honored to see preserved for future generations. ❤️🚒

For anybody who hasn’t looked outside and noticed, we have decent sized cell moving through the area.

Please be careful on the roads, as it’s been a while since the rain has washed them clean of oils and grime.

Everybody enjoy their weekend and please remain safe
