Today we remember one of the greatest advocates of the Lyme & TBD community, Patricia V. Smith. Pat passed away on August 17, 2024.

Pat was a passionate advocate for Lyme disease & tick-borne illness awareness, volunteering with the Lyme Disease Association of NJ and later founding the national Lyme Disease Association, Inc., which she led until her final days as the non-profits' president.

She lobbied state and local leaders to improve educational initiatives, including home study reform and in-services for teachers and school nurses. In collaboration with author Amy Tan, she created the LymeAid 4 Kids program, awarding grants to families of children in need of treatment.

LA4K carries on Pat's legacy through the stewardship of the Colorado Tick-Borne Disease Awareness Association (Below in the center seated is Pat Smith with many of the Lyme community advocates at the 2018 advocate meeting in conjunction with the LDA-Columbia medical conference.)
