The new recruits are out in full force as they begin their orientation time on shift. They will spend the next few weeks with their groups and Officers riding as an extra on the engine and ambulance before they are cleared to work and counted towards shift strength.

Announcement:

Please welcome our four newest members to the Northampton Fire Rescue Dept FF Doe, FF Raschilla, FF Berneche, and FF Gerritsen. They were sworn into the department today by Mayor Gina Louise Sciarra and Chief Pelis.

Recruits have completed their basic fire training and now will head into EMS training under Division Chief Millin. Following that, recruits will be assigned to shift where they will observe and ride for multiple weeks to finalize their training.

Thank you the City of Northampton, and Mayor Gina Louise Sciarra for supporting our fire department personnel, and allowing us to work towards safe and adequate staffing levels as we progress and move forward.

Four new recruits are finishing up their month long orientation of basic firefighting skills and will be putting it all together this morning at the training tower at Station 2 in Florence with live fire. There will be steam and smoke in the area, and residents should not be worried.

Following this, recruits will spend a week of training pertaining to EMS and then will be assigned to shift.

Happy Independence Day from all of us at Local 108!

Today we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy, and honor the generations of Americans who have served and sacrificed for our country.

As you gather with family and friends, we wish everyone a safe, yet fun Fourth of July. If you’re celebrating with fireworks, please remember that fireworks are illegal for personal use in Massachusetts.

Leave the fireworks to the professionals, keep a safe distance from public displays, and help keep the community safe.

C Group Station 2 assisted Easthampton Fire Dept with a 3 Alarm Structure fire today. Off Duty firefighters came in to cover the city to staff an Engine and Ambulance during the duration.

Local 108 members attending the funeral this morning to honor the ultimate sacrifice of Robert Kilduff Jr while operating at a multiple alarm structure fire.

24 year veteran Robert Kilduff of the Boston Fire Department was killed while battling a three-alarm fire in Dorchester last night.

During suppression efforts Robert fell from the third floor and sustained life threatening injuries where he was then transported and pronounced at a local hospital.

Robert was one of the best they said.

Local 108 is keeping our brothers and sisters at Local 718, the Boston Fire Department, and most importantly Roberts family in our thoughts and prayers during these difficult times.

May he forever be in our hearts.
