Here’s my electrical consumption with 2 Samsung heat pumps running on low speed , and a Broan ERV & Broan HRV running on low . 10kw PV system and Generic pwr storage . Via PWRView app.

Take away is cooling , dehumidification , and healthy indoor air is not expensive to run ! First time in cooling mode and my summer is already looking less clammy.

Dude we cut it in 1/2 ! Ach from 2 to 1 in 2 hours. Super detectives Keirnan and Jay found with the help of the blower door and the aussiedoodle sibling support squad that the double stud wall top plate detail had a flaw and needed some extra shmooee, ( or was it goop?) from the attic flat. This is why you test before insulating. This is why you aim high and verify . The mechanicals are getting uniquely simple on this project - future post on that.

Awesome epic project started down the MassSave R&A path for renovations , but now on target for huge rebates in the All Electric program, Tier 2 ($25k) . @475.supply

Big effort yesterday in New London CT . Final HERS inspections 45 units, team of 3 . Unfortunately we couldn’t Sample the air leakage as inconsistent results. I even had some time for troubleshooting bath fan flows on the 5th floor . Crazy as energy codes just changed , even new projects seem a bit outdated. The Milwaukee Packout rolling duct blaster blower door setup was near perfect. A few more adjustments for next effort and it will be dialed. Maybe I’ll remember the door stops then too.

A ‘Variable Weather Day’ so no school. That’s the new ‘snow day’ in the new Climate paradigm. Where the few towns of a district , just miles apart at different elevations , have seriously different road conditions.

So we made the most of it . For a small Lego set and a slice of pizza, I got a well spirited fast learning helper at this final inspection of a barn conversion ADU for Valley Home Improvement in Amherst . 1.8 ACH50 .

1810 house in Sheffield MA . 4 units , extensive fire damage. Todays work is helping with envelope and mechanical design and projecting rebates for electrification to hopefully make the case for going all out to get this gem of a structure to current code levels of airtightness and small enough heat loads so heat pumps can be a rational choice.
We’ll be looking at a lot of spray foam and 3-4 different incentive programs .

MA Stretch Energy codes are updating .. very soon! Link in bio for an overview of the new HERS requirements for residential projects permitted after Jan 1 2023 and then the huge update for July 2024. is coming on strong for new construction and major renovations and additions.
