Sessions are held both in person at the senior center and virtually. If you would like to join a virtual meeting, please email [email protected]. Thanks to a generous grant from the Alzheimer’s Association Center for Dementia Respite Innovation, the Northampton Senior Center and Cooley Dickinson’s Pioneer Valley Memory Care Initiative (PVMCI) are excited to launch a new weekly Respite Memory Café beginning this September. A Respite Memory Café provides a safe, welcoming space for individuals living with memory loss, cognitive changes, or dementia to engage in social activities and meaningful connection. While traditional Memory Cafés are designed for both caregivers and their loved ones to attend together, a Respite Memory Café allows caregivers to take a break while their loved one participates in a supportive, supervised environment. The café will be held every Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and is designed to give caregivers a few hours of respite while ensuring their loved one is engaged, comfortable, and well supported.

The Driving Decision with MA RMV
Thursday, August 27
10:30 to 11:30 am

Research suggests that most people outlive their ability to drive by seven to ten years. The Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) “Driving Decision” workshop is an interactive discussion about older driver safety and mobility. Topics include license renewal requirements, REAL IDs, older driver assessment, planning for driving retirement, reporting procedures and potential liability, and license surrender procedures. The program also identifies how age-related changes, functional impairments, and medications can impair driving. Workshop attendees will be able to identify the warning signs of unsafe driving, understand RMV policies and procedures, and learn techniques to use to prepare for driving retirement.
