đźš’ A Beautiful Day for a Drive & Show! đźš’

Purchased in 1922 for $8,000, this custom-built Maxim fire engine was one of Northborough’s first motorized fire trucks. It served the Town of Northborough MA from 1923 until 1966, when it was purchased by the Northborough FireFighters Association, who still proudly own and maintain it today.

Today, members of the Association brought this special piece of Northborough history to an antique fire truck show in Marlborough, joining many other beautifully preserved fire apparatus.

More than 100 years later, this Maxim is still turning heads and proudly representing Northborough! ❤️🚒

🔥 💦 COMPLIANCE & READINESS 💦 🔥

When you see a fire hose on one of our trucks, you probably don’t think much about it. But that hose is a critical piece of equipment - and when we need it, it has to work.

This past week all our fire attack and supply hoses underwent their annual testing to make sure they are safe, reliable, and ready for an emergency.

SO, WHAT DOES HOSE TESTING INVOLVE❓ 👇
🔎 First, each hose is checked for age, wear, damage, and other signs that could affect its performance.
đź’¦ Then, it is filled with water and subjected to very high pressures for a required period of time.
🔎 Finally, after testing, each hose is carefully reinspected for any signs of damage or failure.

WHY DOES THIS MATTERâť“
Because when our firefighters arrive at a fire, there is no time to discover that a piece of equipment isn’t ready. Every hose needs to perform when it is connected, charged, and put into service.

It’s another example of the work that happens BEHIND THE SCENES to make sure your Northborough Fire Department is ready when you need us most. 🚒

Within just 13 short days, Massachusetts has tragically lost three members of the fire service.

Our hearts are with these three firefighters, their families, friends, communities, and fellow firefighters in Marshfield, Quincy, and Taunton.

The pressures and demands placed on firefighters in today’s world are significant, and the struggles are real. Behind the uniform is a person, and sometimes that person is fighting a battle that others cannot see.

Don’t be ashamed. It’s OK not to be OK.

We all have demons to battle. You don’t have to fight them alone.

Talk to someone. Reach out. Ask for help. Look out for one another.

We owe it to each other to make sure no firefighter has to face these battles alone. ❤️‍🩹🚒

Over the next week, all four groups will be training on vehicle stabilization, extraction, and rescue operations across a range of scenarios.

Today focused on lifting and stabilizing vehicles using auto-locking cribbing, which automatically locks in place as the vehicle is raised to improve safety and stability for responders and patients.

These skills apply to multiple emergency situations, including freeing trapped occupants and creating access to safely apply water to an electric vehicle battery during a thermal incident.

Hands-on training like this is critical to keeping crews prepared for challenging and unpredictable incidents in the field
