A sweet day for a great cause!

Glencoe families came together for Lemon-Aid Stand Day, raising funds to support the Glencoe Public Library’s renovation.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, grabbed a cup, and supported the library!

As the Chief House sponsor of Senate Bill 1616 (Public Act 104-0115), I’m excited to share the first phase of ISBE’s new calendar of cultural, religious, and other observances now available for schools across Illinois.

The law requires ISBE to publish these dates each year so schools can be mindful when scheduling major events and activities. School districts can also add dates that are important to their local communities.

Giving schools this information ahead of time means more students can participate in the events and activities that are part of their school experience.

Today is the last day of Clear the Shelters Month! If you’ve been thinking about adding a four-legged friend to your family, consider adopting at Heartland Animal Shelter and giving a pet a loving home.

There are so many animals waiting for their forever families. 🐾

In a recent NCSL interview, I discussed the pragmatic, pocketbook issues affecting Illinoisans and the importance of finding practical solutions to everyday problems.

I also shared the story behind Public Act 103-0615, which I sponsored to give drivers more transparency when an insurance company determines their vehicle is a total loss. The bill’s path from an idea to becoming law is a good example of how listening to constituents and working through the legislative process can lead to meaningful change.

Watch the interview to hear how this legislation came together and why these issues matter to Illinois families.

Thank you to NCSL, America's Public Television Stations, and WTTW | Chicago's PBS Station for the conversation.

Yesterday, State Senator Julie Morrison, State Representative Bob Morgan and I met with local park district administrators and board members to discuss current priorities and challenges.

Key issues included permit processes that delay community projects and raise costs, and public safety, including preventing e-bike damage to parks. Park districts are also big local employers, and more full and part-time job applications, especially from the community, are welcome and encouraged.

Thank you to the Park District of Highland Park for hosting us and to everyone who shared their experiences and priorities.

Ravinia Festival is one of Chicagoland’s great summer traditions, bringing live music to the suburbs for more than 120 years.

As part of Ravinia’s America250 programming, This Land: America in Song brought together music that reflects the many stories and traditions that have shaped our country.

There’s still plenty happening at Ravinia this summer. Check out the upcoming concerts, performances, and events and make plans to spend an evening at one of our community’s most iconic venues.

Being presented the 2026 Mental Health America Legislative Champion Award by my University of Chicago Law School Professor Mark Heyrman was a full circle moment.

Working as a student attorney in the Mandel Legal Aid Clinic Mental Health Project reinforced my understanding of the critical importance of affordable and accessible mental and behavioral health care. And I saw firsthand that the judges and attorneys we put in positions to make decisions about people’s lives matter.

I’m grateful for this recognition and look forward to continuing this important work alongside advocates, providers, and community partners across Illinois.

Statehouses are the “laboratories of democracy.” This summer, 8,000+ state legislators and staff convened in Chicago for the 2026 National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Legislative Summit. Our team’s sessions included “disagreeing better,” constituent services, and healthcare and childcare policy solutions.

Thank you to NCSL for hosting and to all the legislators, staff, experts, and advocates who learned alongside us!
