Going to bat for our fire companies...

The House is considering legislation that would create the Fire Company Transformational Grant Program and recognize the need for larger, longer-term investment in firefighting resources.

In too many instances, these grant programs favor urban fire companies. Today, I attempted to amend House Bill 2446 & balance the distribution formula so fire companies in our area get a fair shake.

Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday in May. It is a time set aside to recognize and honor the men and women who are currently serving in a branch of our armed forces.

I was honored to spend May 16 as one of the guest speakers, along with PA Adjutant General of Veterans Affairs Brig. Gen. Maureen Weigl, at the Moshannon Valley Veterans Memorial Wall in Philipsburg.

The day was first celebrated in 1950, and described by President Harry S. Truman as a day to “display the flag of the United States at their homes on Armed Forces Day and to participate in exercises expressive of our recognition of the skill, gallantry, and uncompromising devotion to duty characteristic of the Armed Forces in the carrying out of their missions.”
