We're again partnering with Seniors For Safe Driving to offer a class next Wednesday, Sept. 2, for anyone who wants to improve their knowledge of the rules of the road.

This is a driver improvement course designed specifically for Pennsylvania seniors 55 years of age and older, and includes the opportunity to earn a 5% or higher car insurance discount that lasts for three years.

The detour of Route 453/Janesville Pike in Tyrone Borough and Snyder Township, Blair County, is scheduled to end this week, with the road officially reopening tomorrow (Friday, Aug. 28).

It was in place to allow slope and pavement stabilization following a road collapse on Route 453 just north of T-514 (Beaston Road).

Slope and pavement stabilization work will be performed on Route 453 north of Beaston Road and is scheduled for completion in July of next year.

Public and private school students in Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 2 (which includes Clearfield County) are invited to participate in the annual "Paint the Plow" competition. This year's theme, “Snow Means Slow.”

This Wednesday, Aug. 26, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will hold a distribution event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Hastings at the St Bernard Food Pantry, 139 Huber St.

There is no need to register in advance to take advantage of this service.

While you remain in your car, volunteers pack your trunk with a mix of loose grocery items, focusing on fresh produce, dairy and protein, in family-sized portions.
