It may have been a little chilly and damp today, but that didn’t stop the Junior Muster co-hosted with Thomaston Volunteer Fire Department

A huge thank you to all of the Junior departments that came out to compete and battle it out for the wins. It was great to see so much teamwork and determination throughout the day.

Congratulations to everyone who came out! We had 8 departments attended with around 25 juniors, ages 14–17, representing the future of the fire service. Thank you all for making the day such a success!

Today, Rescue 1 and Engine 3 responded to a dirt bike accident deep into the woods on the trails along the Naugatuck River. Crews from Rescue 1 were able to get access to the trail from Campville Road and go approximately 1 mile before getting out and walking the remaining distance. We were able to quickly get to the patient with some assistance from dirt bikers in the area who helped lead us to the location.

Harwinton responded mutual aid to bring their UTV and assist with communications. While their UTV responded from the north, Thomaston was requested for their UTV to respond from the south. The patient was located approximately 2 miles in from our access point and about 200 feet off the main trail. Northwest Medic 1 arrived with Harwinton’s UTV along with additional EMT’s from Northfield Fire and Litchfield Ambulance.

We would like to thank our mutual aid partners for their assistance today. The call went very smoothly with several hands working from different services. The patient was transported by Thomaston Ambulance with Medic 1 to Waterbury Hospital on a trauma alert.

Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps is starting up an EMT course for anyone interested.

Did you know that for all medical calls in Northfield, Northfield Fire responds as a first responder with EMT’s and EMR’s. We currently have 5 members that are finishing up their EMR training at Beacon Hose Co. No. 1.

We are always looking for more first responders. Our first responders respond to the scene in their personal vehicle or on fire apparatus. Once the ambulance leaves with the patient, we return to service which makes for a quick turnaround to get back home to our families.

If you are interested, stop by any Monday night after 7pm or if you see us there.

Yesterday we had our live burn at Litchfield County Regional Fire School. While most of our interior folks were here, we had 5 more that were taking their EMR tests. We’ve seen a lot of growth over the past few years and hope to see it continue. If you are interested in joining, stop by any Monday night around 7pm.
