Sacandaga Task Force for Senior Living

Sacandaga Task Force for Senior Living A grassroots effort dedicated to community enhancement and the well-being of our Adirondack society. Their need for services is imminent.

The focus of STFSL is the Sacandaga Valley centering on the hamlet of Northville in the Town of Northampton, located within the Adirondack State Park of upstate New York. Northville, with approximately 1,200 year-round residents, is located on the 29-mile long Great Sacandaga Lake which was formed in 1929/30 with the construction of the Conglingville Dam on the Sacandaga River and the resulting in

undation of the river valley. As formerly named, the Sacandaga Reservoir was created to help control spring flooding along the upper Hudson River and to relieve salt water incursion into the the lower Hudson. Though man-made, the popularity of the Sacandaga as a tourist attraction and eventual place for retirement, continues to grow. Like many of the neighboring small communities, Northville/Northampton in upstate New York has recently seen an influx of residents in their retirement, adding to a local population of aging residents. The regional communities included in our study are: Benson, Bleecker, Broadalbin, Day, Edinburg, Hadley, Hope, Mayfield, Northampton, Northville, Providence and Wells, all lying within the counties of Fulton, Saratoga and Hamilton. The following are the purposes for which the Organization has been organized: 1) To establish and provide affordable housing for senior citizens and senior Living facilities for the general welfare and benefit of the public, including but not Limited to purchasing and owning real estate; providing services in connection with the management, maintenance and repair of any such housing; providing other services that may be necessary in connection with establishing housing and facilities for senior citizens. 2) To attract or develop senior services that will help seniors who wish to remain in their own homes. The public or quasi-public objective to be served under Section 201 (b) of the New York Not-for-Profit Corporation Law by each business activity undertaken pursuant to this section is specifically to provide affordable housing for senior citizens who meet certain financial guidelines. By providing this service the corporation will lessen the dependency of these individuals on the government for financial assistance for housing. Nothing herein shall authorize this corporation, directly or indirectly, to engage in or include among its purposes any of the activities mentioned in Not-for-Profit Corporation Law Section 404 (b) through (v). In furtherance of its corporate purposes, the corporation shall have all general powers enumerated in Section 202 of the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law, together with the powers to solicit grants and contributions for corporate purposes.
