Ed Schimmel - for Ohio Representative 44th District

Ed Schimmel - for Ohio Representative 44th District Edward Schimmel is running to represent Ohio's 44th District. The election is November 3, 2026. Paid for by Edward Schimmel Election Committee.

I am an attorney, business owner, and two term member of Northwood city council. On May 12, 2015, I announced a campaign to be the next Mayor of Northwood. I'm now in my second term as Mayor of our great city. I am a Northwood high school graduate (1995), the University of Toledo (1999) and the University of Toledo School of Law (2003). In addition to practicing law, my father and I farm 275 acres

, most of which is located within the City of Northwood. I am a past president of the Eastern Maumee Bay Chamber of Commerce, and remain active with the Toledo Bar Association. I am married to Carolyn Schimmel (Howard), who also graduated from Northwood High School (1996), and together we have three children. As Mayor, I have worked to draw new jobs to the city, address blighted residential and commercial properties, improve communication between the city and residents, and increase the quality of life for all Northwood residents. My focus at this time is redevelopment of the Woodville Mall property, creating connectivity throughout the city, roadway improvements, and public safety.

It's been a busy few days of campaigning and of Mayor's obligations, but I was still able to make it over to my favorite festival this past weekend. We had a great evening Saturday at the GAF enjoying the food and music of the German side of my family. On Sunday I returned to the festival for a few more of my favorite foods and talking with voters about the issues they are facing. I've also been talking about the successes we have had in Northwood, and how I will take those experiences to Columbus to make the 44th District more prosperous.

Thursday evening Northwood City Council approved one of those successes. In what is one of the final city investments in the redevelopment of the site of the former Woodville Mall - A clocktower to act as the center piece of the rebirth of this location. Demolition - Roads - Recreation Center - Private investment. No new taxes were raised to revitalize this site. Thinking outside the box and leveraging state and federal programs, the municipal bond market, and a TIF designation for a portion of the property all came together to help make the project a reality.

The State of Ohio needs to expand the grant and loan programs for the mitigation of brownfield sites (industrial, commercial, and retail), which were used in this project. As State Representative I will advocate for more of those funds to return blighted properties in our community to useful sites for redevelopment. We need less development of greenfields and more redevelopment of formerly successful locations.

⭐ Endorsement Announcements ⭐

The Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants - PAC

The Ohio State Medical Association - PAC

It's very important to have the input from different professional associations to know what specific issues their industries are dealing with. I'm happy to announce two such organizations, Ohio CPA's & Ohio OSMA, and their endorsements of my campaign.

If you'd like to talk with me about any issues you are facing, I'll be at a meet and greet tonight sponsored by the Wood County Women's Republican Club at Danny's in Rossford from 6:30 to 8:00. You can also meet other candidates endorsed by the Wood County Republican Party tonight.

Days like today make this campaign very enjoyable!

Started out the day at Lucas County Republican Party HQ with Friends of Ian Chamberlin & Derek Merrin.

Went door-to-door in Sylvania Township handing out literature and having many engaging conversations with some fired up voters.

I finished off the day as the officiant for a wedding. I've done several over the years for Northwood residents - and it is definitely a perk of being mayor. It is so very special to share that moment with two people and their friends/family.

We watched Mexican, German and Hungarian dancing - ate authentic Hungarian food - and purchased some homemade quilts, shirts and hats celebrating my wife's Hungarian heritage at the Birmingham Ethnic Festival today.

Although the Birmingham neighborhood isn't in the 44th District, I spoke with a lot of voters who traveled there from the District for the festival. It's amazing how families that started in that community as new arrivals to our great country now live throughout the Toledo area today.

I also got a chance to break out one of my new shirts today. Send me a message if you'd like one.

I met some hard working members of the Rossford Chamber of Commerce today while I was volunteering at Rossford Riverfest.

There's still time to get down there for some dinner and activities, and to support a chamber of commerce that is really growing... in a town that has a booming economy - right here in Ohio's 44th District.

Speaking of booming - they are going to have a massive fireworks show tonight!

⭐⭐ Endorsement Announcement ⭐⭐

Toledo Police Command Officers' Association

I am a strong supporter of our local law enforcement agencies in and around the 44th District. We need tough penalties for those who commit crimes in our community. As State Representative I will ensure that police have the tools to enforce our laws without interference. I'm very pleased to have the endorsement of the Toledo Police Command Officers' Association.

We had a nice Sunday at the Wood County Fair, complete with a 4H milkshake.

A big thanks goes out to Cindy Hofner for organizing the booth and spending so much time there last week, and to all of the volunteers and candidates for making the Wood County Republican booth a great place to stop for information on the candidates.

My very first Swanton Corn Festival Parade.

As a corn farmer, I can't think of a better thing than corn to have a festival centered around. Well done Swanton.

After enjoying the parade and festival, and of course eating some corn, my team and I knocked on nearly 200 doors in Monclova Twp. I'm taking notes on the conversations we're having and the concerns voters want addressed in Columbus.

The last three nights I heard from voters of the 44th District at several local functions. We spent some more time at the Wood County Fair on Wednesday with other Wood County elected officials and candidates, including Senator Gavarone and Wood County Probate Judge candidate Doug Ruck.

Thursday, my son Aidan and I attended the Rossford Bulldog Extravaganza. It was a really cool event with Braxton Miller (OSU) and Jake Butt (UofM) telling their stories, all in an effort to raise money for the Bulldog Foundation.

On Friday I had the chance to help run the train rides at the Northwood Beats and Eats at the Northwood Recreation Center. Yes - I was eating fair food even though I wasn't at the Fair.

Tomorrow we will be at the Swanton Corn Festival if anyone wants to help throw candy in the parade at 10:30. Sunday I will be back out at the Wood County Fair talking with voters, and watching the demolition derby at 5 pm.
